Nothingness

Haunted Enough?

Haunted Enough? (Photo credit: mich&pics)

Footsteps in an empty room
Afternoon shadowplay
Well before noon
Ghostly images
Flickering on the stair
Feeling of presence
When nothing is there

Lights shining dimly
When switches are off
Lost faces like images
On virgin cloth
Banging of doorways without
Vibration or breeze
Room turns to icicles
Chilled by degrees

Footsteps in an empty room
Hear people whispering
Absent too soon
Search in the cloudy night
For a star to wish upon
There but a moment, like
Nothingness gone

Sinews and Creation – for Prompt 37 Unavoidable Pain

Lower back too stationary
Too long
Upper back moves, repetition
Too strong
Imbalance now is at the centre
Can’t last
Every word that I have written
Too fast

Sinews and creation’s drive
Don’t bend
Any wisdom drawn from age is
No friend
Yet you’re forced to still create
To write
You’ll regret this very soon
All night

I am servant to the muse now
Can’t deny
Lured back before this screen to
Yet try
To find balance in my day
It seems
The vigour that I knew in youth
Just dreams

When this novel is complete
I’ll rest
See this stamina is only
A test
And it seems all sense and reason
Forsake
When the final thing I find is
Back ache

For mindlovemisery’s prompt at: http://mindlovemisery.wordpress.com/2014/01/05/prompt-37-unavoidable-pain/

I’m busy writing a novel but I find my back is laying siege on me. I am at war with my body in the need to create so this prompt was very timely for me!! 🙂

Clapping

Clapping, clapping here in time
Faster rhythm, faster rhyme
Face bathed in full brilliant light
Music playing, sheer delight

Resplendent here the moon and stars
Conquer night and sun debar
Dancing in a circle formed
From this womb a world is born

See the gods come out to play
In this fever dance and sway
Music calls the muse to life
Switchblade, perfect, cutting knife

Clapping, clapping as we dance
Fervour lost in circumstance
Leaving all our faith to chance
Slipping, sliding into trance

Laika

Confinement is imprisonment
Little pioneer of science
Once the vastness of your world
Comprised of dirty, city streets
And endlessness was hunger
Cold and pain

Brothers and sisters found
In science’s sepulchral walls
Once worthless finding worth
In expendability
All together chained within
Ever decreasing latitudes

Oh gentle, over spanning space!
To launch within a cage
To the limitlessness of all
So alone, you’ve always been
But now strung out on stars
Ornament to knowledge and solitude

To watch you ascend is despair
Pure heartbreak, drenched empathy
They say your pulse rate rose
With heat and bleak humidity
Your little soul stretched out
So near and far from any god
Too far to yet be found
And taken home

At any rate too far
From any god of gentleness and care
You had but hours suspended
In the terrible mystery of the dark, enveloping sky
Be proud you reached new territory
Dumbstruck by perfect, incomprehensible fear
Coffin circling our earth for a multitude
Till as a pyre you burned out as you fell
At last back home within our atmosphere

Sleepwalker

Sleep Walking

Sleep Walking (Photo credit: corey.wagehoft)

Sonambulatory surrender
Caught between
Ether and ethereal
Exilir and exile
Wandering blind but seeing
Down shadowed hallways
Shuffling, shuffling

Delirious disorientation
Shot through with
Night and nightmare
Delirium and dream
Every step a pattern
Of preternatural instinct
Shuffling, shuffling

Sleepwalker signalling
Words between
Wondering and wonderment
Desire and design
Thousand step journey
Unconscious and alone
Shuffling, shuffling

Revolution

Cross & Clouds

Cross & Clouds (Photo credit: John H Wright Photo)

No more revolutionary thought than love
No greater or more simple call to arms
Against the tide of persistent individuality
And natural, bodily greed
Survival instincts programmed
For the selfish gene
And yet this emotion gestates, arises
The phoenix unexpected
Unintended and new

No more chaotically unbridled act than love
Deconstructing everything in the wake
Of sacrifice, warmth and care
Suddenly felt for another, as another
Giving up our very selves for something greater
Or someone smaller
On the axis of the blessed, ancient cross
All history and thought bled
Something new
Something new

New Year’s Day

New Years Eve 2011 London

New Years Eve 2011 London (Photo credit: Sean MacEntee)

As the cacophony of celebration settles
Into the grooves of hopefulness and aspiration
The world teeters on a precipice
Of its own unconscious design
May we have quiet
This New Year’s Day
May we rest

As astrologers and prophets pen varying predictions
Optimism and pessimism careening together
Like over-excited children
In a vibrant, spinning playground
May we have peace
This New Year’s Day
May we rest

No millennial fever this year to ignite imaginings
The zeitgeist has passed such thoughts over
Like imperatives on lay by, so forgotten
On sad remainder shelves
May we have calm
This New Year’s Day
May we rest

Could it be within the debris of forgotten hope we find
Measures and dreams still relevant with vital life
Still running in our veins unimpeded
By the disappointments of lost years and loves?
May we have hope
This New Year’s Day
May we dream

He’s Not There

It was in his eyes
I fell
It was in his words
I was lost
It was in his lies
Perfect hell
He knew I’d pay
every cost

It was in his smile
he could fool
me that in his heart
there was care
Like he’s my teacher I’m
back in school
But when needed most
he’s not there

Shadows

Home night

Home night (Photo credit: AMagill)

Peek-a-boo
Shadows lurking
Children play
In darkened rooms

Lullabies
Hide their terrors
In the world
The black rose blooms

Hush now child
No use crying
Shadow friends
Have come to play

All who live
Will soon by dying
Nothing more
For us to say

No Heart

Romantic Heart from Love Seeds

Romantic Heart from Love Seeds (Photo credit: epSos.de)

I have no heart for this
No heart
My days are trodden down
Dark alleyways
My spirit lost itself
So long ago
I hardly know myself
Or where to go

I have no heart for this
No heart
Belief is not my friend
Cannot be found
I do not even wish
To rise above
This pit I wallow in
I eschew love

I have no heart for this
No heart
