Moment – for Prompt 55 Slowly Dawning Horror

There was a moment when you stood upon the stair
and all the lights of the world coalesced
cascading in your lustrous hair, and men in rooms
played billiards into the night
And you thought you could still make it
You thought that you just might
You were perfection in a ball gown
A May Queen waiting for the fair
Until you realised what was really waiting there

The chosen girl now for the carnival you stand
as all the dreams of this dark city
on such remedies are planned, and judges old
are nodding as the sentences are made
And you thought that you weren’t frightened
You thought you were so brave
And you bow for the masked fellow
who comes to take you by the hand
There’s something here that you must understand

Years later you’re remembered as the special, pretty girl
They spread roses at your footfall
and saw all the flags unfurled, while all the dancers
with such solemn secrets there delight
They were feeding on your pain then
they were nourished by your fright
Down the rabbit hole you’ll tumble
and through death you twist and whirl
You were just their pretty sacrificial girl

I went for a real horror story this time. Ritual sacrifice is such a cheery topic!! 😦

Vertigo

Imbalanced and precarious
On a clifftop looking down
The momentum just to fall
Almost irresistible
You feel the pull
Of ancient deities
Of promises and piety
As they overwhelm and here remind you
Of where this dissonance began

Feeling sea-sick and so giddy
Abyss welcoming and dark
There’s something here
That you’ve forgotten
And it whispers
And it sings to you
Of all that it might bring to you
As it caresses and consoles you
Begs return, return again

Falling is so simple now
Just let go and let god
No resistance in your soul
Just relief to finally know
Any blood you spill
Is so red in its wandering
The Silences are pondering
Where you land when you stop flying
And return to earth again

Jasmine Nights

Jasmine nights
Down corridors we
wander and whisper
such dark delights
Could be the brother
or the sister
of the Northern Lights
So soft, so bright

Lost melody
In dusty pages
of unopened books
find a sign of me
Is that indifference
or a stranger look
they give so readily
for everyone to see?

Bottled wine
There’s just trace
of us in nineteen
ninety nine
And all we meant
and might have been
And what lay behind
your twisted mind

Jasmine nights
A shadowed beach
under a silver moon
the dark highlights
Were you a dream
or a fateful boon
for losses put to rights
on Jasmine nights?

Fractured – for Prompt 54 A vastly important secret

Oh little ones I felt the fall
The splintering among you all

As heavens opened I espied
The way you wailed, you fell and cried

What once was One had to rebel
And what this brings the brave don’t tell

Oh little ones that once were great
In being many, many hate

Oh little ones I feel your pain
This unity you must regain

But see your souls are split apart
And each a beating, living heart

This lucifer is shards of light
Your choice to breed this barren sight

Oh little ones, you’ll pray and cry
To yet return here by and by

Oh little ones I felt the fall
The splintering among you all

I went with something kind of biblical/religious, the choice of the Fall and a secret of the humanity arising from that. It’s a fictional theory, but nevertheless…. 🙂

Tripping

I rode a freely falling star
That collided with the moon
On a frenetic summer’s evening
Sweat glistening on my skin
And it spoke of secrets, lies and sin
That ended all too soon

It was a serenade for fools
Masked men dancing in a room
As a string quarter was forming
Beautiful harbingers of night
And in gardens of such strange delight
The darkest flowers bloomed

Orion’s dragon in his lair
Glitters, winking his refrain
As the harvest sky is drawing
Departing angels swiftly winging
As beneath the earth is singing
Melodies I can’t explain

Escape

I’ll run away tonight from you
I’ll pack up bags so silently
That nothing of my passing shall
Even whisper on the breeze
I’ll travel through the darkest hues
Through quiet streets I’ll steal away
And you will never raise your head
Nor for a moment shall thought stray
To where I run and where I’ve bled
To where I run away

I’ll slip your noose this night indeed
My shackles broken with such stealth
No sound, no motion can betray
Or signal as I quick retreat
The suburbs stream behind me now
The distant climes of city scapes
Send special signals as my guides
To save me from the worst mistakes
And lead you to my cruel escape
To where I may escape

Apologetic

I apologise
For speaking truth
I apologise
For giving proof
I apologise

I deep regret
I showed my hand
I deep regret
I understand
I deep regret

Forgive me now
For being right
Forgive me now
For I can’t quite
Forgive me now

The Lie

You turn your head
Your blood-red eyes to me
And speak
Your tone is low
You almost glow it seems
Yet weak
Your time to come
A different drum I see
We stray
I feel the fear
It’s creeping near to me
This day
You turn your head
Your blood-red eyes to me
And cry
Of how you’ve bled
These words you’ve said are free
But lie

Again

Are we seeing it again?
Eyes averred to those in need
Are we pampering the egos
That grow fat on blood and greed?
Are we seeing it again?

Are we hearing it again?
Rhetoric of wilful right
Do we count up all the cost as
Lives are shattered in the night?
Are we hearing it again?

Are we feeling it again?
Such a dread and dark despair
When we search for our heart’s allies
We are left so wanting there
Are we feeling it again?

Are we knowing it again?
Cycles form and darkness grows
We are victims of our hatred
Thus the wheel of fate bestows
Are we knowing it again?

Falling At Your Feet – for Prompt 52 – Soul Scarring Regret

You were to me the epitome
Of loss of innocence
You’d hand out blame and use my name
For games at my expense
I deep regret and won’t forget
When I first saw your face
So drenched in sin where to begin
Paper thin for wrapping grace

Before your years I thought of tears
As just a passing phase
I’m gutted, drawn and left forlorn
Forsworn in dark malaise
They say true death has viper’s breath
And kisses far too sweet
Your devil’s cleft, my soul is left
Bereft, falling at your feet

My blood you’ve spilled and heart you’ve killed
Still I’m falling at your feet.
