Black Label

Pomegranate

We keep our special secrets
Hidden in deep cellars
Personal black label
Seen by very few

The finest delicacies
Are forbidden fruits
Like the pomegranate
Dear Persephone knew

It’s a thing of pride
That we here hide away
Our true finest black label
Secrets out of view

Beauty is Beauty

Beauty is beauty
Our hearts know this true
Once you have seen it
You always knew

Loving is loving
Perfect in care
Once you have known it
Always it’s there

Beauty is beauty
Truth is but truth
Once you have felt it
No need for proof

This Sporting Life

Крузенштерн

We are the captains
This sporting life
We wear the right uniforms
We say the right words
The dice that we roll
Are loaded and absurd

We sail the tall ships
This sporting life
We know these seas well
We pilot our ship
Of ambition’s sweet promise
We do not lose grip

We run the long race
This sporting life
The finish line is looming
Just within our eye’s view
It’s all about the winning
Nothing else will do

It’s all about the winning
And we will best you

Love Song for The Demon – for Prompt 43 Supernatural Lust

Red Dragon by William Blake, image credit: en.wikipedia.org

Red Dragon by William Blake, image credit: en.wikipedia.org

Sing me your songs of sheer electricity
Set ablaze my synapses
And scorch earth right through of me
Tenderness lacking, the soul in full flight
Can feel no emotion
Just need in the night

My eyes shatter light in an open awakening
Transfiguring my heart
In the tumult, earth-shakingly
Grasping my hands and I’m led down this path
That has no true beginning
And no aftermath

Just let me bleed, as your need will intoxicate
I’m drunken on spirit fire
As you ravage, excoriate
Bend to your will without reason or choice
As my soul is thus damned
By the sound of your voice

A Triptyche of Pain: Three interlinked poems

Pain

Slake the thirst of bitter pain
Each tear a droplet unbidden
From a depthless, vast sea
Red as blood I’m stained
All the secrets I’d keep hidden
Part like lost friends from me

No choice, just wail and cry
Every nerve end overflowing
All control completely lost
Weep till exhausted and so dry
All the truth you can’t bear knowing
Becomes your brittle, perfect host

In this busy public space
All defences wanting, shattered
Hang your head in your shame
How did you travel to this place
Where everything that could have mattered
Takes another’s pride and name?

A husk on dry wind flying
My soul beats a bleak retreat
Nothing left to do or say
Death’s an antidote to trying
And some say its kiss is sweet
When there is no other way

Checkmate

Every move
Is into check now
King is caught

Queen fallen
Knights are bleeding out
All for nought

Lunacy
Rules the battlements
As it burns

Hopes ride out
On such brittle ground
None returns

Inevitability

Within the wood’s deep weave
Lies its individuality
The rules through which it grew
Are memories on show to see
And like this weave, its pattern here
Occurs once and yet again to me

What we sometimes call our choice
Is but a hope illusory
Our natures and our fates
Sing just inevitability
And this melody so strong and clear
Reflects such dark truth back to me

All the trials and tests I take
Like the patterns of an ancient tree
Lead me down required roads
To the narrowest of tributaries
To cliff tops waiting cruel and sheer
Where I fall to only what is me

Feast

English: Feast!

English: Feast! (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

This ravenous hunger
Will not be satiated
These elegant hosts
Not here ingratiated
A perfect feast
Is kept at arm’s length
To bridge this distance
There is no strength

The fatted cow lies
In glorious display
This perfect savagery
Here we betray
And for our soul’s need
There’s no sustenance
You can’t withstand this
Don’t know the dance

The knives are raised now
To partake of this feast
But who is the diner
And who the fallen beast?
The hallways they call you
Where you know you can’t go
And you find of this evening
Just a lost, failing glow

At First Sight

By Pale Moonlight

By Pale Moonlight (Photo credit: nightchrome)

Awaken
A lover’s sigh now
On your lips

At first sight
An angel’s wings spread
Bringing light

Hold your breath
For fear these moments
Pass too soon

The sunlight
Is eclipsed now by
Pale, bright moon

The Great Beauty

Once celebrated
On the world’s stage
The perfect picture
On the front page
What of the swan
With the progress of age?

The great beauty
Of the silver screen
Parties, bonhomie
Everyone’s queen
But as the light fades
Is she still seen?

Precision and symmetry
On a porcelain face
Glimmer of mystery
Nought out of place
But as the years pass
Never a trace

Mystic’s Last Love Song – for Prompt 42 Tired Surrender

Upon these streets I have listlessly wandered
Within lost thoughts I have sunken and floundered
In brittle light bathed I’m en-webbed and confounded
Ears harkening to the call

A barefoot adept, arms outstretched on high
In this moment more afraid to live than to die
With such tearless eyes, all the wretched may cry
We stoop before we fall

In gentle paradox is the food that we crave
In righteousness doubtful, in freedom enslaved
Dug so deep in the earth, too interred to be saved
A splinter in the eye of the All

A student afraid of her teacher precise
Hidden cat in the darkness, her heart turned to ice
Finds redemption’s sweet fire, the soul’s sacrifice
No surrender too great or too small

Not to fail, or be prisoners of our perfect device
No surrender too great or too small

Golden Fleece

Chasing the mythical
All of my life
How many windmills.
How many windmills?
All things fantastical
Fall to my knife
Is this a standstill,
Is this a standstill?

Dreaming of mastery
Could it be mine?
How many quests now,
How many quests now?
I’m just a human
Not part divine
What could I endow,
What could I endow?

Golden fleece shining
In my mind’s eye
What kind of sacrifice,
What kind of sacrifice?
It’s just cheap colouring
It’s just a lie
Diamonds are just ice
Diamonds are just ice
