Gathering – Part Two

I little knew
That in that room
The Gathering
I thought a game

And if I knew
Would I have gone
And held their hands
The very same?

In reaching out
Into the dark
I little thought
It reached to me

Now hovering
A spirit calls
It calls as death
Like death to me

Triumphant now
I feel its breath
Against my cheek
And we begin

I have no choice
My fate is sealed
It waits impatient
To come in

And did he know
The one that called
Us like lost sheep
Into the room

A sacrifice
Is always part
Of what dark flowers
Take to bloom?

I little knew
A parlour game
Would be the dirge
That demons sing

But would I yet
So curious
Have gone there still
The Gathering?

Gathering – Part One

This gathering this night will draw
from dimensions distant something new
and bright and powerful that delights
and gives us wisdom we might crave
And on that wondrous spiritual wave
our lost ones gather to us here
on this the most propitious night
in this most beloved year

In holding hands we make a link
that reaches far beyond the veil
to something waiting in the dark
to travel now on waves of light
to make our little lives so bright
with joy, with love and fear

Oh spirits we invite you in
to our company this special eve
Our craven needs have drawn us now
to gather in this darkened shade
and call to you that you might come
and bring us succour from the grave

This little company so bravely calls
to creatures, energies out of sight
our little lives are broken here
on this dull plain and so we reach
for comfort and from all you teach
perhaps a way to raise ourselves
beyond the leaden world

Weep

Do not weep
Behind your veil
Do not weep

There’ll be time
For such travail
Once you sleep

Life is bleak
You once said
Now you know

We have bent
And we’ve bled
As we go

Do not weep
Behind your veil
Do not weep

There’ll be time
For such travail
Once you sleep

Budding

New life budding
So perfect
Yet to be formed
Full of promise
On a beautiful morning
Waiting to be born

New day dawning
Sunshine lights
The path ahead
And of the past
We leave behind
So little said

Just like the branch’s
Miracle budding
Against this sky
We’re born and born again
So many times
Before we die

Last Ritual

At the last ritual of a dying world we dance
Veiled in red we swarm to mingle in a throng
of fiery endings seeking out the new beginnings
buried deep below the citadels we burn

An ancient call and wisdom attends our every move
but yet on instinct do we follow siren calls
across the roads and past the fast defeated walls
down alleyways that whisper promises
to our deeply deafened ears

Once night is past the morning bleeds a day
born fresh anew on the rubble of our dreams
of former years crushed under such extremes
we barely breath to see the wonder on display

I recall you standing bleak against the sky
your dress a parody of the burning in your midst
and I wondered what revelations you might bring
before you fell to slumber nestled with us all

At the last ritual of a dying world we danced
to birth a new world, trembling new
this innocent child, which we will nurture and we’ll nourish
till in time we fall again to feed
upon the bitterness of its inevitable decay

New Year

I’ve had insults, pain and slights
Life has shown me such delights
Sometimes I’ve stood prepared to fight
Sometimes I’ve turned away

Monotony of day to day
Where little matters anyway
Just entertainments on display
For whom we cannot say

A new year waiting at the door
Those lesser gods we might implore
To give us what we’re yearning for
Before they go away

Despite this past we will forget
Our hopes are strong and vital yet
We’re thankful for the friends we’ve met
On this, our new year’s day

Crown of Thorns

Down the years we don
Our crown of thorns
And bleed our dreams
On our life’s brittle page

Make our prayers to gods
Give our sacrifice
As though bargaining can make
Us rule this weary stage

Each year we find anew
A fresh perspective born
To don once more
This crown of thorns
Find brighter stars
To wish upon
Until we are gone
Until we are gone

Blight

A death’s a merry way
To worship
You might say
A blight of history
The choice made by men
But rising hope
Can crash through darkness
And its reverie
And shine a light
And show the path
Is here again

A simple cross
Is like a beacon
To that darker age
Where cruelty
Was all we offered
To the lost
But something more
Has made its mark
On history’s page
Even though
Such sacrifice
Too great a cost

A death’s a merry way to worship
You might say
But we first must taste of night
To find the day

Your Place

This is your place
This darkness suits you
As you wear the cloak
Of invisibility
Your tortured dreams
Have harmony within
These ancient walls
And if I ever came to call
You’d draw me in
And draw me down
Into eternity

This is your home
The place where you were born
A mewing infant
With a deathly caul
You took it all
Your mother’s dying breath
And if I came
I know there’s nothing left
And nothing’s free
You’d draw me down
Into eternity

Competition

This competition excoriates
Friendships broken
Fallen at the feet
Of mere victory
Struggle in vain
Only one may rise
And there at his feet
All the broken dreams
And dreamers lie

This trophy is of blood
And broken bone
And promises smashed
Through cruelty

The world demands
Its heroes arise
From the darkest
Of all debris
To tell the lie
