Assassin

Lone citadel
You were the assassin
Of my heart

Your weaponry
Ancient swords
Cutting too deep

You wait so long
In perfect stillness
For the kill

My heart breaks
And dies without
The slightest touch

My ghost watches
As you pack
And turn to go

You do not weep
For endings are all
That you can know

City

The rush of silver
The city at night
I remember you
laughing, calling my name
We were dancing
in the early hours
like children
So young
And I thought
this would last forever
or at least till the morning
and that this would never come

The city so vibrant
It was coloured with you
In my memory it’s vivid
because of your smile
Your voice so lyrical
calling to me
until we were twirling
so free in the night
And I thought
this would last forever
or at least till the morning
and that this would never come

Meet Me

Meet me there
In the hush of twilight
Down the park
Where shadows linger
Under the light
Of a lone lamp shining
Meet be there

Meet me there
And hear them whisper
The others here
That meet in secret
Under the gaze
Of a lone moon shining
Meet me there

Necromancer

She calls things back
Things that should have gone
So far down the track
All the unholy ones
She calls them back

Deep within the night
She weaves her ancient spells
Hidden from our sight
Drawn from the depths of hell
Deep within the night

Necromancer trade
To hear the future told
Creatures half re-made
From silver, pitch and gold
Necromancer trade

She casts them down
When all their use is gone
Puppets at her feet
Crushed dreams they wished upon
She casts them down

No Apology

Reached an impasse
No apology
For the lies
Deceit and treachery
No remorse
And no fault is owned
Each will stand
But only stand alone

What of love
When blame is on the line?
Mediate
For a truth refined
But it’s too late
All is left behind
Each will gaze
But each gaze is blind

Black and White

Symbolic duality
Black and white
Balanced held
Temporarily
What feet may walk
Across this chequered floor
And what for?

Perfect design
Each component
Like the last
In perpetuity
What ritual done
On a blood washed floor
And what for?

Between the cracks
Of dark and light
We may yet fall
In only ignominy
What sacrifice
Holds the balance here
And what for?

Reptilian

Reptilian hybrid creature
Do you breathe
As others breathe?
Do you eat
As people do?
What is in
the heart of you?

Creature born in deepest space
Do you weep
As others weep?
And at night-time
Do you sleep?
What dire secrets
Do you keep?

Alien within a snare
Is your fear
Like other’s fear?
Captured now
Would you escape?
What revenge would you
Yet take?

Reptilian woman in a shell
Do you feel
As others feel?
Nature’s device
Or is it ice
Runs in your veins?
Are we the same?

Promised

Promised you a treasure
Little child
Promised you a secret
Running wild
Locked away is all
That I could tell
Down within the caves
Where none may dwell

Promised you perfection
In a day
Promised you the tender
Things to say
Turn the key to open
All that’s light
Let this be your guardian
Through the night

Promised you a treasure
Little friend
Promised to protect you
To the end
Take this light to guide you
All the way
Even in the night-time
You’ll find day

And if you should ever
Lose your way
Know that I’m beside you
All the way

Actor

Try on your faces
You ignorant fool
Each expression rehearsed
Each word but pretence
You said give you a mask
And truth they would know
But there’s nothing left here
To show

Practice your words
You actor of life
Your home is your haven
Your convenient wife
You thought in the shadows
Your monster could dwell
But there’s no stories left
To tell

Parade on your stage
The pretender returned
Your schtick is so old
Even older than you
But the punters keep coming
So what can you do?
There’s nothing here left
Of you
