You
Epitomise everything
You claim
To despise

Your lack
Of self-awareness
Is astonishingly
Comprehensive

Others in our midst
Consider you
A curious caricature
Of clueless conniving

Your plans
Are so transparent
Even polished glass
Seems foggy
By comparison

Your seething, blind
Despotism
Is it own holocaust
In the making

How pathetic
Your insecurities
Follow you
Like dis-embodied, defeated ghosts
Desperate in your wake

House of Lies

This is a house of lies
These hallways can disguise
The players and the gamblers
Vying for the prize

This house is full of ghosts
These evil, spectral hosts
Whisper words to damn you
Darken souls the most

The politics of sin
Within these walls begin
You barter all the loyalties
Believing you can win

This house within, without
It knows what it’s about
And should you try to exit
It will not let you out

Unrequited

unloving

unloving (Photo credit: D.Reichardt)

I turn my face
From yours
Your lips capture
Only my cheek
So I am polite
Not passionate
And words of love
I will not speak

You turn your face
To mine
Your eyes implore
My very soul
But to return this look
In any honesty
Is simply out of
My control

Thai Food Craving

Q2 Thai Cuisine

Q2 Thai Cuisine (Photo credit: lulun & kame)

I am craving
Thai food
Sweet and spicy
Succulent and tender
Curries and stir fries
Rice soaked with juices
Coconut milk and bamboo

I wonder if
I’ve too little salt
In my system
This craving is so strong
Or I’ve spent too much time
Writing and dreaming
And now hunger
Rules my mind

Chinese food too delicate
Perhaps
I need flavour
Like an explosion
I need richness
Deeper sustenance

I crave
Thai food
So it’s floating
Like a vision
In my mind’s eye
Calling me
A siren on the rocks
Leading to the lovely oblivion
Of indulgence

Coincidence

The first web spun by the spider Arabella in orbit

The first web spun by the spider Arabella in orbit (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

When does a coincidence
Turn into prophecy?
How many instances
Combine to synchronicity?
How many overlaps
Till we are forced to see
How many times must combine
For a trend to be?

I know that I may see a ‘face’
In a cacophany of leaves
And often what we choose to see
Betrays what we believe
Some random likenesses don’t make
A pattern here conceived
And should these instances prove false
I know I’d be relieved

Yet sometimes in the weave of life
A spider web is found
And by ignoring all the signs
New traps can here abound
By failing to conceptualize
A capture so profound
Too late we realise the risk
Our freedom runs aground

Even Then

Supplicant

Supplicant (Photo credit: Transcendental Moo Cow)

Should you fall to your knees
Beg forgiveness
A supplicant before me
Even then, even then
I do not know

Should you admit to your crimes
Every single one
Without excuse or accusation
Even then, even then
I do not know

Should you call on a friendship
Never really born, nor yours
Rejected for a game
Even then, even then
It’s just the same

All trust is broken
Irrevocable damage
Falling around our feet
Yet even now, even now
I do not know

Falsity

English: Broken Heart symbol

English: Broken Heart symbol (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

Once I felt
My heart open
A physical sensation
Like a bud in bloom
A stillness covered me
I felt I heard a voice
And strange electricity
Filled the room

But this was just a trick
Of light and laughter
And the awful way
That eyes can lie
From here there’s no return
To former innocence
No matter how the heart
May try

Games of the Fey

One and Other-Fairies World

One and Other-Fairies World (Photo credit: Feggy Art)

See spirits and sprites
Delicately dance and dare
Humans to their world

Alice though the glass
Found the same strange haunting there
Down this curving road

Do not eat the fruit
Pomegranate lays its trap
Sweetest nectar calls

Come back at the dawn
Do not stray too long within
Halls of no return

Visible Anger

Anger spills over
my senses; red like the bull
in mid fight or flight

My face is a sword
poised; ancient samurai now
ready for battle

In my brisk footsteps
dire warning; lowered eyes
letting the storm pass

I should not be so
indiscriminate; flowers
should not fear the storm

Before the Decline

Elderly Woman, Morocco

Elderly Woman, Morocco (Photo credit: United Nations Photo)

Nature is at its most beautiful
The moment before the decay
Flowers in full bloom
Butterflies in flight
Hovering over the precipice
Of decline

Similarly the lines of age
Upon a face
Begin to trace
The trajectory of wisdom
The beginning of peace
The calm and balance
Of acceptance

In this youth obsessed world
We miss the rule of nature
As it applies to our own kind
And to the true beauty
Of our elderly
We tragically
Are blind

Let us not miss
The perfection
These moments before
The decline
