Starlight Musings

Just re-posting a very early poem from my first couple of weeks blogging because a conversation with a friend reminded me of it (for some reason that is too hard to explain). Anyway, for the many of you I hadn’t yet met in wordpress when I first posted it, I hope you enjoy the poem. For those of you who have seen it already, I hope you forgive me the indulgence of re-posting 🙂

i.

Mathematical precision
A melody
trembles into being

A solar system
aches with possibility
to communicate

All these stars
once gods and devils
splayed above

Visions and madness
Could this be
a type of love?

ii.

On Tuesday
the writer paused
to hear a rumbling within

Down corridors
encircled by age,
a memory lingered

That night
gazing above
he remembers a face

Recalls the feeling,
the texture
But not the time or place

iii

Across the universe
a hand reaches
wreathed in gold

Every hour we waited
seems now only
a moment

Sheer electricity
hums discordant themes
of yesterday

A hero falls
upon a mythic sword
somewhere far away

iv.

Dark-eyed, iris-less
Muted speech
Nothing is real

We would have spoken
if you’d listened
so long ago

The atmosphere is dense
with longing
and some after-taste

Civilisations rise
on some errant meme
then are laid to waste

The Limerick That Yearned For More

Day 64 - Sadness

Day 64 – Sadness (Photo credit: juanpg)

There once was a limerick I knew
That people would quote in review
A laugh it would bring
While it yearned to sing
Of something more pure and true

But the truth will not bring it much cheer
Since sonnets are far more revered
For its form is not lent
For dramatic intent
So remains ever as it has feared

Stars

Pleiades Star Cluster

Dismay
Today
I pray
The way
Will cut through all dismay, today you
Give to my heart, I pray, the way through

It’s true
I do
Come through
For you
My heart was yours then, it’s true I do care
Despite this pain I come through for you there

And we
Are free
To be
Purely
As our souls at birth, and we are free, close
Now to stars wished to be, purely, most

(This is an attempt at the Tyborn form which has a syllable structure of 2/2/2/2/9/9 with the 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th syllables repeating in the last two lines.  It’s hard to do and I’m not sure I’ve done it justice!)

Always Here if You Need Me Award

always-here-if-you-need-me

This blog award is for those bloggers out there who are especially caring and loyal to their friends. It has been designed by the wonderful Briana at http://whenibecameanauthor@wordpress com , who was kind enough to include me in her nominees. Thank you Briana, the feeling is entirely mutual!!

This award is to thank you for being there with me, through good times and bad. And for going above and beyond the call of duty to cheer me up when I was low.

Rules:
Post a picture of the award somewhere on your blog.
List five things that make you happy.
Choose 5 people to nominate who have been a virtual shoulder to cry on, checked in on you when they knew things were rough, or has always been there for you.
Comment on their blogs to thank them and let them know you nominated them.

Things that make me happy:
1. Having time to relax with DVDs
2. Spending time with close friends
3. Having victories, no matter how small, at work
4. Reading all the wonderful blogs I follow, and generally being part of the wordpress family
5. Each day getting closer to some of my Rome Construction Crew (RCC) goals

My nominees:

In many ways, all those that loyally follow my blog and that I follow are deserving in my eyes of an award of this nature, but I shall try to keep (mostly – five isn’t enough, but I will keep it notionally at 10, not counting some group nominations!!) within the rules – this inevitably means that there are many I won’t nominate but would like to, so please don’t take offence if you are not nominated but we correspond via blog regularly – I truly appreciate the support of so many on wordpress!

The following blogs are owned by bloggers who are always supportive, always kind, always there and show great generosity to others. I chose mainly to reflect those that are some of the most regular commenters on my blog and a couple of real life friends who also blog. In a couple of cases, as noted, they are ‘real life’ friends as well as blogger friends and the support I have from them in both spheres contributes to why they are on this list. For the others they feel like they are real life friends too, even though we only know one another virtually cross cyberspace. I haven’t included Briana in the list itself, but in real terms – even if it is breaking a blog rule, I include her anyway, and I didn’t individually include those she had already covered such as Charles and Ionia (though otherwise they would be included in my list)!:

1. http://mindlovemisery.wordpress.com – wonderful writer of unique, thoughtful poetry and so generous to other writers
2. http://thesanctuaryofmyheart.com  – one of the kindest and most pure souls you will find
3. http://solothefirst.wordpress.com    – wonderful friend of many years, terrific writer
4. http://roxistclair.com  – sublime poet, tremendously warm, generous and giving friend
5. http://annieb222.com  – friend of many, many years, wonderful support and inspiration and my first guide into traversing the wordpress world
6. http://caronessauthor.wordpress.com  – one of the most generous bloggers I have ever encountered, a true inspiration as a person
7. http://themusicalpoet.wordpress.com – Ray is a wonderful writer and very talented musician, plus just a lovely person all round
8. http://akateraka.wordpress.com – wonderful writer and recent collaborator on poetry, a sublimely spiritual writer
9. And one of two general ones – to all the fellow members of the Rome Construction Crew at http://romeconstructioncrew.com , and its wonderful initiator greenembers!!
10. The other general one being my fellow contributors to http://neverendingstorydepository.wordpress.com and its wonderful initiator Ionia (see I managed to sneak that one in anyway, even if she was nominated by Briana…breaking rules, just a little bit, is fun!!)

I have broken the rules a fair bit with this I admit, but I have been nominated for awards by so many generous wordpress friends that I haven’t had time to follow through on (having a day off from work today made this possible and I wanted to honour Briana’s new award) – so I thought perhaps going over the nominee limit gave an opportunity to say thanks back more generally since I haven’t had time to follow through on the other awards when they were so generously given. 🙂

Discordance

Man in Foggy Morning (Super wide)

Man in Foggy Morning (Super wide) (Photo credit: Rajiv Ashrafi)

A solitary man
Upon this road
Listens so intently
Above him a starlit canopy
Sings songs of the spheres
No discordance here

A chill within
Bids him pull
His collar to his throat
Before him aches the road
The travail of all his cares
No discordance there

An angel greets
The walking man
As night retreats to dawn
A sunrise glistens on such wings
That vibrate celestial tunes
No discordance soon

He wraps wisdom
Within his heart
To follow through the day
The midday sun could burn his soul
With memories made to last
No discordance passed

Elemental Cycles

Desert thirst
Waterless ocean
Death by sand

Fire dressing
Flickering fabric
as you writhe

Bath too still
Submerged for too long,
motionless

Natures loves
this special vacuum
No breath here

Earth, fire,
water, air; gather
souls to home

Anticipation

Writing

Writing (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

First a creeping fear
The unknown peeks
Its shadowed head above the bow

In this debut year
The author finds she speaks
Of truths hidden until now

Every step she takes
One piece of her goal
Slots quiet, firm in place

Fears her heart will break
This endeavour of her soul
Now out to a public space

Many months submerged
In the business side
Preparing for the stage

All these fears emerged
Commerce fighting pride
Is this freedom or a cage?

Anticipation of a voice
Heard pure across the world
If only by a generous few

Frightening, alluring choice
All the flags unfurled
Reveal depths of what we do.

Voyager

Tiger

Tiger (Photo credit: @Doug88888)

When I was a child
I dreamed I was a tiger
Roaring in my backyard
As though in Africa

As a teen I yearned for music
To be dancing with the stars
In a Hollywoodian moment
Within America

In my mid years came strategy
Of an office politics queen
Making deals within contention
And ascending from the start

Till my latter years, a poet
Loving wordplay and its charm
Finally I am a voyager
To the homeplace of my heart

Bid

Embrace

Embrace (Photo credit: aarmono)

I shudder within
Translucent skin
I tremble above
The sighs of love
In terror I turn
Unable to learn
I climax, I fall
Lost to it all

The moment I breathe
I’m starting to leave
With never a word
So much may be heard
In loveplay I lost
My soul to my cost
Do not bid me sigh
I’ll never reply

Just let me here burn
I’ll never return

Burning

The burning man, from the Burning Man Festival

Suspended
Hover as in flight
above me

Intended
such redeeming sight
to love me

Returning
like a ghost of past
Take your bow

I’m burning
Fire cannot last
in dreams now
