Wait List

I’ve been on your wait list
Far too long
I’ve been patient and longing
For a song
To be invited to the party
To belong
I’ve been on your wait list
Far too long

I’ve been standing patient
In the wings
I’ve been learning my lines
Practising
I’ve offered heart and blood here
Many things
I’ve been standing patient
In the wings

I’ve been on your wait list
For these years
Waiting for the time you turn
You appear
But this pattern’s holding
And I fear
I’ll still be on your wait list
Many years

Midnight Blooms

Midnight blooms
Eclipse the flowers of
Lost afternoons
They open with such
Artistry
The night is queen to
All beauty

Born of dark
These flowers hold such
A special spark
They live a moment
Just one night
The rarest and the
Briefest sight

Midnight rose
The one the angels wept
And chose
I wish I could have
Had the time
To smell the scent
So lost, sublime

Rich and Dis-Spirited

Bored gargoyle

Bored gargoyle (Photo credit: katewrightson)

I saw you that Sunday afternoon resplendent
in your finery and pacing in the room,
the jewels you wore so casually, dripping from ears you
turned from me, a pretender in full bloom

You leaned against the mantelpiece
as though all life had drained from you
And this rich and dis-spirited point of view
was deepest ochre, deepest blue

Others struggle for food in open mouths, while you
disdain the cheeses cut, you linger by them
saying ‘but…’ and let your little jaw just jut
You drown in shallow, drown in glut
With all the deepest doorways shut

Oh ennui is a friend to you, it seems
it’s just something that you do
In driving nothing we see you rise,
as though a thought would so surprise,
an effort that is over-due, from your rich and dis-spirited
lost world view.

I : for Prompt 27 Curse

English: Lucifer, the fallen angel

English: Lucifer, the fallen angel (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

The I that is I
rages against all unity
Ferociously independent,
unique consciousness may yearn
for connectedness
but not at the expense
of the I

Love is still self-referential
Carrying the spark,
the urge for self-knowledge
through the mirror of another’s eyes
This need we felt
at the fall, embracing the malice
that is going from the One,
the All
to the I

Even mystics dreaming
to be one with the Beloved
want within their souls
to be aware of communion
in its moment
Not lost and consumed by it
Not at the death of the I

We create our own hells
The pain of splintering,
broken apart from the source,
we stumble blind
but vicious in our pursuit
of the I

We fall as Lucifer
Each separating soul
wanting to know itself
separately
And now we carry the misery
of what we have lost
and the curse, the cost
of the I

I decided to go philosophical rather than halloween-esque, but still, it’s inspired by some darker occult beliefs and possible interpretations of the Fall.  🙂

Join In! Let’s Write The Chronicle of Proofs together!

Hi Everyone

I’ve just added a new page entitled ‘Chronicle of Proofs The World Has Ended’ as a place to keep together all the additional proofs I may write while promoting Curiosity.

But the main aim of the page is for it to be inter-active, and for that I Need YOU! Your ideas and proofs, to progress Curiosity’s thesis that the world ended some time ago and nobody noticed.

I’ll add proofs from time to time as I blog about Curiosity‘s publishing journey, or just as they occur to me. Trust me, it’s fun to write them. But I’m sure there are many, many more proofs I won’t think of but someone else will.

So I thought a page for an ongoing  Chronicle of Proofs could be fun. If you check out the Page you’ll see how to join in – which is one of three ways:

1. Write a proof in the ‘proof’ format in a comment and indicate you are happy for it to be included in the Chronicle
2. Write a proof on your own blog and link back, again indicating if you are happy for it to be included in the Chronicle or if you’d prefer just to have the link in the comments section
3. Email me with a proof for inclusion at:

helenvalentina66@gmail.com

I promise I will credit the author of the proof. If you check out the page now you will see I already have one collaborator in the exercise – solothefirst – (thanks so much solo!!!) who has already provided two great new proofs.

I do hope you join in and look forward to our collaboration over time with this page!!

Cheers

Follow the Owl

Owl of Minerva (cut off an old coin)

Owl of Minerva (cut off an old coin) (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

She perched upon your hand
She whispered ‘Understand!’
She told you wisdom deep
Such secrets you could keep
You followed as she flew
To places no-one knew
These depths within her eyes
Minerva’s sweet disguise

I say, follow the owl
Her hooded eyes and cowl
The forest is so dark
A fire without spark
She wants to call your soul
She whispers ‘Come be whole!’
She’s perched upon your hand
She urges, ‘Understand!’

Space Age Dolls

Space age dolls
So iridescent
White and sleek

Hybrid eyes
Heavy heads can’t hold
Deeper thought

Saturn, Mars
So planetary
In a spin

Space age dolls
Don’t know where they end
Where begin

Curiosity is now on Amazon Kindle!!!!

Curiosity

Curiosity

Another exciting step in Curiosity’s publishing journey – the novel is now also available on Amazon Kindle!! The link is:

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00G726GRQ

Over the next month or two it will also be available on Nook, iStore and POD on Amazon too – I’ll update as that occurs. 🙂

For those that have been following Curiosity’s publishing adventure you’ll know a few things. As a book Curiosity is a bit of a self-confident brat. It’s light, even though its satirical humor is dark, and it is confident in the face of its own inherently nihilistic philosophy.

Because at its core is the protagonist Peter, who believes the world ended a number of years ago and nobody noticed, leaving us only with meaninglessness and pointlessness in a rapidly de-constructing universe.

Peter keeps a journal with a series of proofs for his thesis, and as I’ve mentioned before, as part of blogging promotions for the novel,I’m going to post a few more proofs – not ones from the book – and I encourage you again to join in if – as you look around you- you find that you, too can see the proofs of the non-existent world all around you once you start looking!! 😉

Proof That the World Has Ended: Skincare

beauty ~ only skin deep?

beauty ~ only skin deep? (Photo credit: sunshinecity)

This is a lovely example of the end of the world wrapped up in a very appealing recipe to feed our vanity and make us feel good about ourselves.

Back  when the world existed, real skin care largely consisted of moisturising the outer layers of the skin, keeping the skin clean and giving a bit of a faux glow (usually requiring make up as well).  Skincare manufacturers recognised and were limited by the skin’s major function.  This, despite most modern media advertising, isn’t to be a thing of beauty and a joy forever.  It is actually to keep things OUT of our body. Skin is a cover, a barrier, to protect our insides from damage and disease.

The fact that our skeletal composition and facial expressions tended to create lines over time was accepted. Short of ‘plastic surgery’ (which may in fact be another variant of this proof- like an early distant warning of the world’s demise or a marker for when it actually occurred) you basically got more lines as you got older because that was the natural outcome of aging in the linear, existing world.

But now in the non-existent world, where time and age themselves are not to be relied upon in any manner, we suddenly have things called peptides which apparently do get in the skin, and they somehow kick the aging molecules’ butts and we find lines disappear or reverse and youth is retained, at least in appearance.

So much for the skin being a barrier then!! But it’s a trick, and one I suspect realised and exploited by those in the cosmetics industry who have recognised the world has ended so aging itself won’t occur as rapidly or reliably.

But there’s no money in admitting your facial age may reverse for no particular reason, so it’s better to package these miracle peptides in cosmetic offerings and say you can reverse time, reverse age. we now have the technology…….

Rubbish!!  You can’t reverse something that no longer meaningfully exists. But you can pretend that’s why people are looking younger than their generational age these days.

And there’s money to be made in that…so many ways the non-existent world can now be put to profitable use. It’s all a trick, but don’t despair. We’ll all be far prettier, far longer even if it is all a con…

Cheers

With The Band

The Strokes live at Stubb’s March 14th night before SXSW. (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

She said that she was with the band
She seemed to think we’d understand
She said she lived just here backstage
She never slept and never aged

She said she’d found the fount of youth
The band was wise, the band was truth
She found herself in following them
And should she fail she’d just pretend

She found herself there with the band
Her choices careful, all pre-planned
And as they fell her soul would die
She didn’t dream she’d say goodbye

She’s just another music girl
Another number in this world
You’d hope someday she’d understand
She’s not herself, she’s with the band
