Phantom

Phantom call
A lonely phone
Upon the wall

Ring once and twice
A stranger’s sad
And lost device

Just a ghost
Electric calling
Down the line

Phantom call
A lonely phone
Upon the wall

Once

So long ago
It seems another lifetime
Another girl
Not me
But even so
My heart knew something deep
How to take flight
Be free
But only once
I felt this deeply
Like some wonder
To behold
So long ago
Just another lifetime
Another girl
Who has now grown old

Frozen

Frozen moment
I saw your face
blistering the sky
with your perfect smile
Before you turned
and disappeared
Within this street of strangers
not a trace
of you
who for one moment
I loved
then lost

Requiem

Sweet eyelids shut
Weep no more
Breathe your last
No moment more
Softly raise now
On angel’s wing
Hear the very
Heavens sing

Light your passage
Find your way
Be where only
True hearts stray
Sleep so soft
In Heaven’s breast
Sweet eyelids shut
Find your rest

Desire

White wolf waiting
Dragons fire
I am only my desire

Serpent writhing
See it bleed
Feeling only what I need

Black heart racing
Devil’s pearl
All our flags are here unfurled

White wolf waiting
Dragons fire
I am only my desire

Rain

Gentle rain fall
On lashes of open eyes
Softly caressing
Every sight

Gentle rain touch
A sun-drenched skin
Droplets are crystals
Perfect and bright

Gentle raindrops
Life force unleashed
Clouds slowly rolling
Most precious of light

Damaged

Deep inside you are somehow damaged
like a building which finds foundations
rotting slowly at the core
Your soul is a whirling dervish yet bereft
of spiritual solace or a purpose
just a wild and feckless thing
In your bloodline runs a sickness
as a cancer through the bones
so brittle breaking as you bend now
to make prayers to long-lost gods
Make your pleas in empty chapels
with knees here cracking like your soul
Like the rest who suffered your being
you’ll see you’ll never be quite whole.

Conviction

Judge and jury here preside
Truth and justice stand beside
See the verdict reached with pride
Wisdom deep and dark and wide

Call him guilty to his face
All your fears and doubts replace
Of this journey leave no trace
Evidence just left to waste

Hear the calls to hang him high
See his god’s face by and by
For the innocent angels cry
Lost in history, forgotten why

Judge and jury here preside
Truth and justice stand beside
See the verdict reached with pride
Wisdom deep and dark and wide

Water

You came to the water
To look deep within
The endless dark water
To seek and to swim
You dove in the rapids
To ferry you forth
In thrall to the tidelines
Of limitless worth

You came to the water
An innocent child
The ancient blue water
The call of the wild
In forests and rivers
Where angels have swum
You came to know truly
Where all was begun

You came to the water
To look deep within
The endless dark water
Where all must begin

Following

Following the crooked road you yet mis-stepped
you fell into this other world
A ragged, wretched, silent girl
you fell

Following the signs in language you can’t read
you’re lost within this reverie
You cannot know what to believe
you’re lost

Following the rabbit down the greying glen
you pray but all the gods are gone
Not even stars to wish upon
you pray

Following your instincts you may find
you sleep and in your fevered dreams
a passage finds you far up-stream
you sleep

Following sprites that dance and gyrate
your home is but a dying prayer
but look, before you, what is there?
Your home
