String Quartet

A string quartet played
A sweet serenade
In all of our finery
Our youth was displayed
To think of this now
I’m a moment dismayed

The violin sighs
All the secrets inside
Polite society
Has so much to hide
So I wonder how love
Has ever survived

The oboe’s lament
Of such days idly spent
Early evenings we strolled
Amidst jasmine’s sweet scent
And to our true natures
We’d gladly relent

A string quartet tries
All these years have passed by
And I am quite alone
With lost memories revived
And like ghosts we may dance
Long past when we’re alive

Good Grief, Inc.

I had to reblog this because it’s simply brilliant, and also because at times like these when there seems to be darkness everywhere, the light of humor, so skilfully done, is a balm to the soul!!! 🙂

For Ionia

I wish for you a dragon’s fire
To breathe freedom to you
To raise you up on crystal wings
Far away from darker lands

It seems the purest souls
Are tested most these days
As though in exchange for generosity
Come ravages and pain
And so I cry to the heavens
Not this, not this again!
Let this dear friend find
Safe passage home
Victorious and complete

Hear me universe
Hear me now!

The essence of the earth to rise and comfort you
The essence of water, to quench your soul’s thirst
The essence of air, to gift you wide expanses
The essence of fire, to burn away all pain
I invoke all the elements
To be with you now
And bring you back to us safe
And healed in body and soul.

Melody

The melody
Flows over me
In waves

Reminding me
Of afternoons
Long passed

Where laughter called
To moments in
A kiss

And lyrics sung
Told stories from
A dream

The melody
Remembers me
Long gone

It brings to mind
A youthful heart
Once mine

And memories
Still linger on
The vine

And memories
Still linger on
The vine

The Dark Glade

[30/52] Annabelle

[30/52] Annabelle (Photo credit: Davi Ozolin)

This dark glade
Where lovers meet in secret
To play charades
How many vows are broken
And dreams betrayed
In this dark glade?

Beneath dark bows
Where leaves that fall are blackness
And are death somehow
How many strange transgressions
Will our lords allow
Beneath dark bows?

This lost road
Where dark invitations
Are the ones bestowed
How many innocent hearts
Shall grey ghosts overthrow
On this lost road?

This dark glade
Where stories of the lost now
Are so cold displayed
How many fears by talismans
Or by coin allayed
In this dark glade?

The Seed – Now Available on Amazon Kindle!!!!!!

The Seed2

In yet more The Seed related news, I’m thrilled to announce that it is now available on Amazon Kindle at:

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00ED8F19A

This is very exciting as uploading it there and getting it right was a bit scary for a newbie at this self-publishing business like me, so I’m delighted to find it was relatively easy to do and is now a finished product available in the Kindle store.

This is especially because Kindle was the beginning of this whole self publishing  journey for me in so many ways.  It was seeing the Amazon Self Publish Guide on my tablet that inspired me to bring the draft of the novel out from the virtual darkness of old computer discs and revise for this millennium (yes, the first draft was actually written last millennium!!).

So now having it on Kindle is like a major part of the journey achieved, and a major step in my RCC goals, with other pathways having occurred along the way and yet to be fully traversed (like the global distribution through lulu.com to Apple et al).

I’ll update further as that global distribution is in place (it just sounds exciting to say global distribution, so forgive me if I’ve repeated it a bit much this post!!!  🙂  )

For the moment I hope my dark romance novel may intrigue some of you and if Kindle is your preferred method of downloading you might give it a try.  If so, I do hope you enjoy the book.  More details on the book are available on my The Seed page on this blog, or at the Kindle link provided.

Cheers Helen V

The Sea

Dragon's Flight

Dragon’s Flight (Photo credit: jcc_seveq)

I let the waves wash over me
And from the deep and timeless sea
He’ll rise and sing his songs to me
His sad, sad songs to me

I tread the sand upon the shore
I want for much, but never more
Than his sweet soul that I adore
His sad, sweet soul that I adore

I tread the water as I breathe
With deep-sea flowers I am wreathed
And for his torment I am grieved
His sad, dark torment I am grieved

I swim the sea of life and time
I bring him gifts of words and rhyme
And draw his strength so old, sublime
So ancient, sad, sublime.

Perfect

You were too perfect to be true
The fairest flower
Has lightest hue
But to what gods
You owed your due
For being you

You were too beauteous I see
Such sweet perfection
Isn’t free
And what a waste
You laid to me
For being we

You were an artifice of design
Your poetry
So ill-defined
And such a cost
I felt, entwined
For being thine

Something Wicked This Way Comes

Cripped image from The Great He-Goat or Witche...

The poet said it best I see
His knowledge and his artistry
The future that his soul foresees
The path of fallen breadcrumbs
Where all of youth and life succumbs
As something wicked this way comes

The oracle within his words
Put truths within a tale absurd
So for centuries it’s not occurred
The risks he’s over come
The beat of hidden drums
When something wicked this way comes

The poet with his sonnet tells
The weave of knowledge and of spells
The wisdom and the fear this quells
And from what depths we plumb
When our fantasy is overcome
As something wicked this way comes
