Surrender

Inside church

Inside church (Photo credit: veggiesosage)

This moment trembling
Before the choice to believe
Or withdraw
A greater light shining from this door
These hallowed halls are greeting me
And all these truths here meeting me
And should this moment fleeting be
I weep, I love, I fall
Surrender to it all

This moment reaching out
To light that shines on dust
And rivers on the floor
See all my life here spread before
A memory that’s calling me
How my poor life was stalling me
And now I love life endlessly
I weep, I love, I fall
Surrender to it all

Cold, Cold

The Lonely girl

The Lonely girl (Photo credit: andrea_sdl83)

Her face was shiny, sickly
So unwell, her fingers trembled
as she held a cup so brimming,
but lifelessly skimming, of cold, cold coffee

Something in her broken
Like fine porcelain left out
in wind and rain, she seemed
a lost beauty, here besmirched
And of her glory not even a trace, left here
on display in dusky coffee shops, so late
on this cold, cold day

I thought I’d seen her before
when she wore a different face
When her frown was less deep
and of hope there lingered still a trace
But no more it seems, each dream
has fallen to the dirty floor, as she watches
And waits near the cold, cold door

Her eyes much older than a girl’s should be
Her words a stutter and her sentences
so unresolved, I felt her shudder
against encroaching cold, and wanted to tell her
this too would pass, but I knew, she’s
frozen solid now in her cold, cold view

Wild Eyes

Wild Eyes

Wild Eyes (Photo credit: Mark Dumont)

Wild eyes open
To a new day

Our deep desires
Here obey

Animal instinct
Arise here

All our beauty
Will appear

Wild eyes glimmer
A true shine

Within the animal
The Divine

Mother Earth for Prompt 33 Man Vs Nature

The Earth seen from Apollo 17.

The Earth seen from Apollo 17. (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

She is patience
Held within
Undulating, rock like skin
Millennia of movement
Slow, elliptical through space
See her slumber
See her spin

Parasites we
Feed without
We cry, we scream, we shout
Live our little lives on
Her beguiling, so calm face
As sun and moon
Dance slow about

She is vengeance
Slow awaking
Thunder skies and mountains shaking
Her deep heat arising
With ponderous, molten grace
All before us
Here forsaking

We are nothing
Fruits just spoiling
Pretenders to a greater calling
Live but a moment just
To vanish without trace
While in silence
Stars are falling

Olympus Falls

White House Front

White House Front (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

Olympus falls these days
But incremental degrees
Each country’s governments
Abject, on their knees
So rife with ill-intent
Than none can please

The gods of old are gone
They neither care nor know
Of petty battles here
Of regimes overthrown
Our leaders so child like
Their souls not fully grown

Olympus has no shame
Its stature is reduced
Our minds manipulated
And all our trust induced
And so these halls are for
The most banal of use

Olympus fallen grace
What have our choices done?
The hallways empty here
Not even demons come
It’s true in this sad year
That our last race has run

Demons

English: [detail].

English: [detail]. (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

Battling my demons
They hide
In crevices in my mind
Like memories
I inconveniently find
Too quickly to avert my gaze

They’re there
Dark silhouettes they dance
A strange syncopation
To remind me
Of their origins and station
In my hidden life
They’re the shadows
Lurking on my back stairs

I’d exorcise them
With extreme prejudice
I’d do this willingly
I’d not think twice
But my demons cling
Like limpets to the rocks
Of the sea-shore in my mind
And then the tide comes
And they whisper
‘Just let me in..
Don’t be unkind’

Personification of virtue (Greek ἀρετή) in Celsus Library in Ephesos, Turkey (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

Virtue is above the need for truth
It calls to something far more powerful
Deep within
It is honour here without need of proof
It shows the inner warrior
The place to begin
It’s nothing more nor less than perfect choice
When everything within the soul
Could yield
It’s how light comes, how angels have a voice
And gives the truest heart the
Perfect shield

Cross

Coventry Cross of Nails – Mellon Bay – Washington National Cathedral – 2012-09-13 (Photo credit: Tim Evanson)

There’s a cross on the wall
Just where the afternoon shadows
Rise and fall

There’s a prayer in the heart
Just when hope through misery
Struggles to start

There’s a child in the arms
Of a parent who will shelter
Innocence from harm

There’s a photo on the case
To prove that love and laughter
Always has a place

There’s a cross on the wall
Which points now to a memory
I never can recall

There’s a place in my heart
Where someday if you visit
Possibility may start

Trying to be Sherlock
Scanning the scene
Looking for connections
Linking in between
Crystalline deduction
Shimmer in the weave
Searching for the proof now
For all that we believe

Feel like Dr Watson
Following behind
Have your own true brilliance
Still you’re feeling blind
Oh to just be Sherlock
Even for a day
Washing all the doubts
And all the fears away

Trust

Trust

Trust (Photo credit: return the sun)

This sweet weaponry I give to you
With whispered confidences true
Please do not use or misconstrue
If I should ever part from you

This trust I show is deep and strong
Your heart a place where this belongs
My secrets are my gift to you
Such power I cannot undo

So should I ever scar your heart
Or with dark words should I depart
Please hold these close and don’t reveal
Or exploit then the fears I feel

I’ve shown you where my soul could break
Please never make this my mistake
And so this promise I give free
To keep your secrets similarly

So let neither of us fall to grief
For tender moments of belief
Revenge and power we abstain
So intimate our truths remain
