Scorpio

I am Scorpio
This constellation
Stings within
The tails of shooting stars
Four parts scorpion
Hidden human
Venus square
To the hubris of Mars

I am Scorpio
Bride of twilight
Delighting in
Our lost mythology
Psychic sister
To this master
Just an errant
Waiting prodigy

I am Scorpio
I am that sense of things
I would fly
If I had found some wings
And of this life
And all its foolish things
My heaven sings

Journey

Let us take a journey you and I
Let us wander down the roads
Where others dare not go
Let us make a pact
And travel to the sky
You and I

Down golden paths we’ll travel you and me
True adventurers we’ll sport
With all the things we’re taught
Let us learn it all
For once and free
You and me

And so joyous can we be, we two
Like children in a game
We’ll emerge not quite the same
Here beneath the quilt
Of sky so blue
Just we two

Come, please come for I’d no longer walk alone
In solitude I’ve come
To this place where we’ve begun
All my secrets
I’d atone but
Not alone

Brittle

Your circuitry is brittle
I reach inside you to commune
You are splintering my darling
Falling deep and wide apart
I can hear the beating of your heart
Like a drum against my ear
I am within you drilling outwards
There is nothing and there is
Everything to fear

We are mostly made of water
My sweet someone, like the seaside
But the currents glint with electrics
Sparked on fire from within
I’m swiftly settling in your skin
To bring us nearer and so dearer
And my way is coming clear
When I’m through there’ll be
No more of you and
Everything to fear

Modern World

This is the modern
Stairway to heaven
An escalator built
For a comfort ride
And on either side
Are categories of purchases
Commodities are now
Trinkets to enlightenment
Because we have no navigation
For any other
Upward rise

Who said that you can’t
Take it with you
When you go?
Custom carriage baggage
Is supplied
And the child
Who reaches the top
With the most toys
Wins here just the same
Nowadays even
The angels know
This is the only
Possible game

Simple travel
Pack your luggage
Turn to go

Just a trip now
If you’re crying don’t
Let it show

What the world has
There before you
You should know

Simple travel
Pack your luggage
Turn to go

Here is the blurb:

America loves John Cannon, its newest hero, and the President wants to present him with the highest civilian medal for bravery for saving the Annapolis midshipman from a terrorist plot to destroy them.

While in Washington for the award ceremony, John unwillingly becomes an accomplice in another plan by the same group to attack the credibility of the US President and the stability of the worldwide oil market. There is no way out as John either becomes a traitor to America or causes thousands of innocent people to die if he refuses.

The second John J Cannon Thriller moves from a barrier Island off the coast of Texas to Washington DC, then to Northern California, and finally to Ecuador. John is on the receiving end of an offer he cannot, refuse. His avowed enemy Matt Jacobs now wants John to help him shake the reputation of the US in the world political arena and disrupt confidence in the government at home. If John refuses, Matt plans to murder innocent Americans including John’s latest relationship. John’s only way out is to pretend to go along with the plan and hope for a miracle.

Excerpt from Chapter one

The water rushes over my head. I’m sinking and don’t know why. With my breath held, I have trouble stopping the air from escaping since the pressure drives the air up and out. I try to keep my mouth closed, but the water pressure pushes the air out more and more. Will I pass out? In the distance, the light is dim. To rise to the surface in time might not be possible─I need to breathe right now. Toward ending the pain in my chest, my rambling mind rationalizes taking a deep breath—even knowing it will end my life. In conflict with the irrational thought of ending it, my body won’t let me suck in the water, as it fights to retain the little bit of oxygen left to fuel my brain.

The despair is nearly overwhelming, and my mind considers other ways to battle the feeling. What more could I have done with my life? The pressure becomes more intense, and I’m about to lose it all, and I decide I’ve lived the way I wanted and have no regrets. I close my eyes and hear only the roar of the sea.

I’m so tired. Exhausted. Sleep will fix everything, and I want to give in.

Confused

Poor Janus is so confused
Looking left and right
And to the front
The past a distant memory
The future looming close to see
And in the present never free

Poor Janus locked away
On medication meant to soothe
His many fevered brows
In hospital he wears the gown
On every visage sports a frown
They say poor Janus is coming down

What’s a god to do these days?
Programmes built to predict
Give him redundancy
The doctors only shake their heads
Hearing all the things he’s said
Thinking he’s just mad instead

Three headed freaks can yet apply
To carnivals that follow
The beaten path
And there from all the truth he knows
Three days a week he has a show
And what a god can only know
A god can only know

The second John J Cannon story continues John’s wish to bring the terrorist Matt Jacobs to justice. In the first book, My GRL John was able to thwart the plot to destroy the Annapolis midshipmen on their summer cruise. Of course, terrorists being what they are not content with just one try to embarrass America. In His Revenge, Matt Jacobs takes his hatred for America and John Cannon to another level. The action moves from a barrier Island off the coast of Texas to Washington DC, then to Northern California, and finally to Ecuador. John is on the receiving end of an offer he cannot, refuse. His avowed enemy Matt Jacobs now wants John to help him shake the reputation of the US in the world political arena. If John refuses, Matt…

My Wings

My wings are not those
Of an angel
Not light
No feathers of white
Caress my back
Instead they are steel
And claw and bone
The wings of a dragon
Flying alone

My wings are not pure
Falling from heaven
Like a star
No hymns to my coming
Will fill the sky
Instead there’s the rush
Of the wind far beneath me
As I fly to the moon
All alone

Knowledge

Speaking in tongues
Through conduits ancient and divine
Spirits reach this hemisphere
And claw to find their way within
Out of the blackened pit of night
Wherein they must reside

Beware the bite of delicacy
They offer riches, treasures pure
But grappling with their tendencies
To lie, you must be careful here
When gazing in the sphere of light
To not be dazzled by the spirits’
Trickery so bright

Knowledge is so tempting and so near
You hear the ancient tongues and shiver
Waiting on that moment
Which you know must be mastery
But in that split second when
You extend your hand to let them in
You’ve given only passage to
Death, pestilence and sin
