Connected Limericks

An ambitious woman once said
Tis better to lead than be led
But with no-one to follow
Her pride she must swallow
On bitterest truth is she fed

A deluded woman believed
That she helped all the people she grieved
The mirror would lie
Should she glance walking by
So no message of truth was received

Both these women should really beware
Tis a virtue to be self-aware
But if this they postpone
They will wind up alone
When there’s nobody left here to care

Whirling Rhyme

Castle Durnstein (with YPaul)

In hallowed halls
These wretched days
When valour calls
Above the haze
The blood you spill
The lives that fall
Will haunt you still
Will sound the call

The hand you play
The friends you kill
Will lead the way
To death, until
All truth is lost
And wise men say
Quick! Pay the cost
Without delay!

A friendly host
Has donned his mask
He’s but a ghost
Has but one task
This devil’s call
Revives him most
Before we fall
We’ll pay the cost

Just a Game

Plots and schemes
Nefarious dreams

Ace up sleeve
Poised to leave

False faced friend
Truth suspends

Melodrama
If you harm her

One way out
Moment’s doubt

Draw your gun
It’s begun

One left standing
So demanding

Truth re-framed
It’s just a game

The Cube

&D cube

&D cube (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

Desert stretch
Mid summer haze
Above the endless sands
It hovers
The cube

Large, light blue
Half translucent
Beckoning to a mystery
It seems for moments
To vibrate
As though it may
Fly away at any moment
And then it shimmers
In some welcome
Half alien
In this landscape
Can it belong?

Nearby
A ladder
Solid wood and strong
Sturdy and reliable
Could reach to the top
Of the cube
If it chose to try, to dare

To the left
A horse turns away
As though to depart
Sensing
Portentous storm clouds
Approaching

Yet none should fear
This storm
Though savage it will
Pass through them all
Leaving them perhaps changed
But unharmed
Just a gift of flowers
Uncommon and unexpected
Springing in its wake
Across the desert sand

Based on the imagination game portrayed in the book ‘The Cube; Keep the Secret’ by Annie Gottlieb and Slobodan D Pesic, 1995

Community (Photo credit: Jeff Kubina)

In this warm community
Embraced by fellow scribes
It’s like I find immunity
From harsher real life tribes

Your friendship and your words
Awake a dream within
Your writings are like birds
About to take to wing

I thank you for your time
I thank you for your heart
The beauty of your rhymes
The dreams that you impart

Disinformation

Social Media Outposts

Social Media Outposts (Photo credit: the tartanpodcast)

The media is
Our new temple
The programmers are
Our new gods
Celebrity, new firmament
Stars glittering above
Politics of doublespeak
Hiding in plain sight
Trick and lull us to
Conformity
The new normal is
Lobotomy
Without the need
For surgery

Disinformation
Spreads faster than
The speed of light
Or even thought
Rapacious jaws
And virtual words
It feeds on greed
And ignorance
A happy couple
At the feast
Ensure we understand
The least
And bow down to their
New false priest

Raphael
Heal these bleeding wounds
None can see
Gabriel
Free me from your harsh
Prophecy
Michael
Who is like to God
Set me true
Archangels
As the greater three
I beg you

Autumn Promise

Landscape Winter Snow

Landscape Winter Snow (Photo credit: blmiers2)

On the cusp
of winter’s dark dance,
first deep chill

No birds come
greet the sun on my
windowsill

Glitter frost
Blanketing my street
sparkling

Wrapped in coat
now I only pray
for the Spring

Prophecy

Prophet Ezekiel, Russian icon from first quart...

Prophet Ezekiel, Russian icon from first quarter of 18th cen. (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

The prophet spoke
Of leaner times to come
The field bereft
The womb barren
A symphony of grief
Across a broken sky
The prophet sang of times
When men would beg to die

They stoned the prophet
Would not hear his words
Believed their schemes
And dreams would endure still
And for a year or more
It seemed they read the signs
More clear than him
And lived in prosperous times

But prophets never will
Be welcomed in their land
When imminent darkness
Weaves within their words
So caught unawares
The famine took them all
Too late to heed
The prophet’s ghostly call
