Heaviness of Air

He felt the heaviness of air
Bearing down much more than gravity
Elusive oppression stifling
Upon his shoulders as a weight

Waiting a moment on the stair
Remembering light, a lover’s eyes
So many years, a century
As finer feelings turn to hate

In the midst of such despair
His aging bones recall embrace
The gifts that he would yet bestow
These moments that are far too late

And what did she declare?
Such words as often said in haste
In absence now what memory left?
Just the heaviness of air

  1. Such a beautiful poem! Somewhat melancholy, all sweet 🙂
