The year they dared to capture
this fallen angel, they tore her wings
and mounted them upon the wall, her
limbs secured by steel tipped strings
The men that gathered there to see
this unholy but sacred sight
blinked, dazed with wonder and
with dread in the yellow, fading light
And then it was night
She was crucified within his soul
Hermaphrodite siblings born of old
The cameras there popping a dull flashlight
And then it was night
That year all that was prayed for
fell like coppery fiery, floating dust
Was this form or song so wicked
to inspire such forsaken lust?
The men still lingered in the darkness
counting their nickels for her plight
‘Pull the strings now little puppet
Sing godly songs all clothed in white’
And then it was night
A true pantomime of heaven’s fall
held the key above this greying pall
Entertainment for the most jaded delight
And then it was night
‘Shoot your arrow flaming into the light
And bring on the night!’

Amazing prompt this week based on the spooky, hypnotic film clip and music for the Tea Party’s song Sister Awake…wonderful choice for inspiring something weird and other-worldly!
Great response Helen, I see you caught the puppet image too. I agree it was an excellent prompt to play with. Fabulous poem Helen.
Thanks so much Michael…such an amazing song and film clip! 🙂
I am so glad you loved the song Helen it has such an effect over me, hypnotic is really the perfect word. Absolutely stunning submission it fits the video perfectly really and your words carry that same eerie beauty as well
Thanks so much! Love the song, it’s incredible, and has such fascinating lyrics too which kind of bend the mind when you try to interpret them, lol!! 🙂
I wanted a song that spoke to the subconscious mind, that was like dreaming, a kind of almost nightmare that drew you in and for me at least this was that song
This is wonderfully creepy!
I actually live with mental illness, but I think we all go a little mad sometimes. The subconscious is a tricky thing.

Thanks so much!! 🙂 🙂
Hear, hear! Bring on the night.
Thank you!! 🙂 🙂
What a tale … the repitition is hypnotic – the story dark and grave.
Thanks so much!! 🙂
My pleasure entirely!
