Once celebrated
On the world’s stage
The perfect picture
On the front page
What of the swan
With the progress of age?

The great beauty
Of the silver screen
Parties, bonhomie
Everyone’s queen
But as the light fades
Is she still seen?

Precision and symmetry
On a porcelain face
Glimmer of mystery
Nought out of place
But as the years pass
Never a trace

I wish age was celebrated more. There is nothing more beautiful than someone who has chosen not to go the cosmetic surgery route–opting to be their God-given self. It is a shame they are not as sought after in the later years–it might make us feel better about our lines, wrinkles, and dare I say…sags. I loved this, Sis. 🙂

  2. The swan is a bird of great beauty and grace Helen. I liked the imagery you evoked in this poem. lovely.

Quite am interesting piece. And timely. The swan is my favorite creature. To me is evokes a beauty and grace without compare. The timeliness is a birthday coming up in a week. I hate birthdays. And I am certainly feeling my age.

Lovely poem Helen. I can appreciate it so much as I age and collect the wrinkles and the sags. But how I look is how my Lord made me and chose for me to look. He looks at each of us, no matter our age and body changes, as a beautiful person, His beautiful creation or work of art.

From mythology to movies this uniquely elegant creature has left its mark and will be remembered beyond its material elements. You pay it gracious homage Helen.
