Beige – for Prompt 30 – Colour

Desert

Desert (Photo credit: Moyan_Brenn)

Beige is the colour of guilt
Cream white besmirched by dirt
A half-hearted hue,
it is dull dismay left over
drying on a concrete floor

Maroon the colour of regret
Blood soaked purple lost
like something decaying
in the wake of sad mistakes
we cannot evade or forget

Grey rises slowly as doubt
A rain-soaked sky,
bleeding clouds that waft
without purpose, only blotting
out indifferent sun

Ochre is the result of days
lost in this desert
We are baked and steeped in a past
half painted and half lived
Carrying our sins to lie in wait
for blessed vultures to descend

  1. Brilliant Helen! I could feel every color. Profound and beautifully expressed =)

  2. Excellent poem Helen, very vivid as colours tend to be, though there is a sense of foreboding about the piece.

I love beige being the color of guilt! I have never thought about beige like that…

    • Thank you – neither did I until I thought to myself for the prompt, what would the colour of guilt be, then I thought of something creamy white that has been stained and made dirty, and came up with beige! πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

  4. Helen, this was a wonderful answer to the prompt. You brought each color to life for me. Loved it! πŸ™‚

  5. is that why my mum puts out dads clothes and all he is allowed to wear is beige – or a derivative thereof? Delved deep into the colour wheel Helen and a very dramatic write.

  6. Anja says:
