Not quite the best
Not quite the perfect one
I grew
Freckled skin
And height before my time
Blemished without cause
Just in the weave of me
A speckled egg
An oddity
Like a speckled egg
Not popular
Not quite within the gang
I hurt
Damage done
Went deep within my soul
Always to feel lesser
The speckled egg
No treasure
The speckled egg
No treasure

Know this. The speckled egg is a treasure as a result of it’s uniqueness. For no other like it can be found. Like a snowflake, not one the same, all precious and important to life’s purpose.
Very true, thank you!! 🙂 🙂
We’ve always been told that the speckled egg has the best yolk. Truly.x
Thanks!! 🙂 🙂 xx
As a fellow speckled egg (you have written my life to the letter) we have to remember that it’s better to be a speckled egg (with the best yolk, as scottishmomus pointed out) than to be like the rest of the crowd; like attracts like, we speckled eggs stand out in the long run, having read your words before I know without a doubt, you are a treasure….please try to remember that my dear 🙂

Thank you Joanne – my fellow speckled egg!! Really appreciate your kind words and support!! 🙂 🙂
Speckled is beautiful 🙂
Thank you – the picture I found certainly has some lovely speckled eggs in it!! 🙂 🙂
I’ve had freckles all my life, as a wee boy they were very pronounced.
I had them when young, they faded a lot by my twenties…I always wished they’d grow together and give me a tan, LOL! 🙂
I had the impression this was more about the ugly duckling. And we know what happened to the ugly duckling. Good poem Helen. Well done.
Thanks Michael, so kind as ever!! 🙂 🙂
I think speckled eggs have a real beauty to them 🙂 people can be so cruel to what they see as different.
Yes, especially in adolescence I found…it seems that many people become more open to and appreciative of diversity and difference as they grow up (though not all I suppose unfortunately!!). thank you!! 🙂 🙂
My Mom was a “speckled egg” when she was young and I thought she was the most beautiful woman I knew! I was always envious of her beautiful auburn hair and freckles. 🙂
Auburn hair and freckles does sou d like a lovely combination!! 🙂 🙂
It is indeed. Easy to see her Irish background with that combination! 🙂 Thanks for the follow on my blog Helen. I feel honored!
You’re welcome – I look forward to keeping up with your work!! 🙂 🙂
Imaginative, and quite powerful, imho. 🙂
Thanks so much!! 🙂 🙂
speckled eggs – ugly ducklings – the unusual and the different are always looked upon differently…but wait till the egg cracks or the duckling stretches her wings…what magnificence can be found.
Very true, thanks!! 🙂 🙂
no worries 😉
