Silence

Darkened room

Darkened room (Photo credit: Bruce Stokes)

A silence fills this house
The clock grows still
And on the window sill
This fractured night
No songbird will alight

Not even breath will stir
Mouths are silent
Yet deeply violent
Messages they convey
Before the break of day

All the words are spent
No more said now
No speech is allowed
Lest breaks the firmament
As all our dreams are spent

A shadow claims these halls
We pass unknown
Unplug the telephone
The fear, so strong, intense
Entraps in silence
