Oh wow I lost my job today
What gift in this circumstance
Is hidden away?
Gift, schmift
Is what I say!!
Crap happens somewhere
Every day
Karma is a bitch but from what I see
She bestows her fortune and furor
Indiscriminately
The innocent suffer
Finding no reprieve
While the guilty get rich
And stay free
Time wounds all heels, the promise made
A final reckoning
For the betrayed
But before my faith
Will eβre be swayed
Explain why the reckoning is
So often delayed?

PS:Β I didn’t really lose my job, it’s just for the purposes of the poem storyline.Β If anyone has recently lost their job, my heart goes out to you and I hope you find another soon!!

Time wounds all heels – love it!
Ah – that’s a quote from something I’ve read before so I can’t claim it, only quote it! It is clever though, isn’t it! π
Indeed x
I got so fed up facing redundancy- three times before I was 25 – so I decided to do contract work instead, at least then I’d know in advance when the job would finish and be looking for the next one to start the day, or week, after.
Best move I ever made … the longest ‘resting period’ was 3 months, but I had saved enough to last six if tiimes got tough π
Thinking positively helps you get another job, because it’s difficult to disguise misery no matter matter how much you smile!
Think YOU didn’t lose your JOB, your JOB lost YOU π
Thank you – as I said in the postscript I didn’t actually lose my job, though the way things are in my industry at the moment that could happen in the future. I’ve spent time in between jobs and done contract work like you though, so I agree with our recipe for handling such life changes! π
Hi Helen,
My message was really for anyone who is facing or been made redundant.
Don’t let it get you down, stay positive and keep looking.
Potential employers will note how you are already coping and prefer positive and upbeat to miserable and hard done by attitudes π
AND when asked WHY you were made redundant, NEVER try to blame your former employer, or say that your job was no longer necessary … just say that you had discussed it with your boss and agreed to move on because you were more likely to be able to get another job elsewhere, because of your experience, than younger less experienced colleagues … π
Very, very wise counsel my friend, thank you! π π
Found you while reading another post. I liked your avatar (TRUTH). Anyway- LOVED this piece. Your wordplay is great and very fitting. I; too believe in Karma. Amazing piece- great read!
Thank you so much!!! And my dragon avatar thanks you too! π
There is no justice. Just us.
Sigh…yes..I think you are right about that! π

A good poem. Unemployment is no fun; and, I’m glad in your case it’s just a story.
