Pied Piper

Hear the lilt
Of the Pied Piper
Whistling softly
Down the path
Will you follow
In his footsteps
Will you meet
His gleeful laugh?

Oh what a merry
Dance he leads us
If we harken
To his call
And our brethren
Gathered here
He will surely
Take us all

Oh his song now
Is so sweet
And so soothing
Is his calm
That we follow
Just like dreamers
Captured by
His eerie charm

Ah but watch
This sly Pied Piper
Think you twice
Before his call
For this moment
Of surrender
Is the beauty
Of the fall

  1. Hmmmm…..the lure of Satan himself maybe? That’s what it reminds me of. Loved this Helen!!!

  2. Great bouncy rhythm. Almost masks the sinister undertones.

Love this Helen! I think I know what song I am going to use for tonight’s blog post. Although I don’t consider myself a pied piper, it is a fun song.

I got side tracked, sorry, but your poem reminds me of con men, how they are so charismatic and then take people for everything.

The Pied Piper…or was it just Maurice and his Highly Trained Rodents?

i dressed up as the pied piper once for halloween, and began to read my class the story and realized how scary and predatory he was. bad choice. great poem.

So many times the pleasant call of that pied piper has led to misery. Evil dressed as beauty, great poem.

Great poem. Love how it’s both fascinatingly rhythmic and sinister – matches the original children’s story perfectly in that way.

  10. What a joy this was to read…. can almost hear the music 😉

  11. Loved this, especially the last stanza ‘for this moment/of surrender/is the beauty/of the fall. Brilliant!

    Lovely.

  14. Such a charming poem though I agree the Pied Piper (and a lot of old fairy-tales) give off some sinister vibes. There is a Swedish children story where a boy goes to collect blueberries for his mother and is eaten by a bear, its almost like the moral is don’t be nice to others or you’ll be screwed haha Seriously I can’t figure out the moral in that!

  15. Great poem. I was thinking along very similar lines today. Love your site. x

  16. I have nominated you for the WordPress Family Award. I know, I know Awards right? This one is a good one. Go here for details: http://wp.me/p2Qoij-qg

    • Thank you so much – this is a good award, as yu say, one that is as special as the WP family itself. I may not have time to follow up as I have a lot of work – both day job work and also novel publishing project work – to do this weekend, but please know I very much appreciate you thinking of me!! 🙂

      • You have a great blog. I don’t always comment but like it very much

      • Thank you, and ditto to you! It can be hard to keep up with all the great blogs, but I know we all try our best! I sometimes worry people think I’m neglecting them or forgotten them, which isn’t the case…it’s just time and what we need to balance in it.

I appreciate your support and kindness! 🙂

If this blog were a musical instrument, it would be a magic flute.
