Hear the lilt
Of the Pied Piper
Whistling softly
Down the path
Will you follow
In his footsteps
Will you meet
His gleeful laugh?
Oh what a merry
Dance he leads us
If we harken
To his call
And our brethren
Gathered here
He will surely
Take us all
Oh his song now
Is so sweet
And so soothing
Is his calm
That we follow
Just like dreamers
Captured by
His eerie charm
Ah but watch
This sly Pied Piper
Think you twice
Before his call
For this moment
Of surrender
Is the beauty
Of the fall

Hmmmm…..the lure of Satan himself maybe? That’s what it reminds me of. Loved this Helen!!!
Yep, that’s pretty much right in terms of interpretation…I always thought the Pied Piper was a dark figure, with those type of overtones. 🙂
Whew….I always hesitate to say my interpretation…usually way off base. This was great. Thanks!!
Great bouncy rhythm. Almost masks the sinister undertones.
Thank you so much!! 🙂 I guess that’s the point of the Pied Pipers music..it hides his intent so well! 🙂
Love this Helen! I think I know what song I am going to use for tonight’s blog post. Although I don’t consider myself a pied piper, it is a fun song.
I got side tracked, sorry, but your poem reminds me of con men, how they are so charismatic and then take people for everything.
Thank you! that’s a great association to make – con men are very much like Pied Pipers!! 🙂
The Pied Piper…or was it just Maurice and his Highly Trained Rodents?
LOL! Now there’s a thought!! Who is that evil villain after all? As Sherock would say, the games afoot!!! 🙂

Thank you!! 🙂
Nice! Fun and light.
Thank you!! 🙂
i dressed up as the pied piper once for halloween, and began to read my class the story and realized how scary and predatory he was. bad choice. great poem.
Thank you! It’s hard to find a fairy story that actually isn’t really grim and scary at its base, so don’t be too hard on yourself!! 🙂
So many times the pleasant call of that pied piper has led to misery. Evil dressed as beauty, great poem.
So true..what a great way of describing it…evil dressed as beauty! Thank you so much!! 🙂
Great poem. Love how it’s both fascinatingly rhythmic and sinister – matches the original children’s story perfectly in that way.
Thank you, most appreciated!! 🙂
What a joy this was to read…. can almost hear the music 😉
Thanks so much!! 🙂 🙂
Loved this, especially the last stanza ‘for this moment/of surrender/is the beauty/of the fall. Brilliant!
Thank you so much!!! 🙂 🙂
Excellent!
As always.
Thank you so much, so much appreciated!! 🙂
charm and charisma
sans
love and compassion
is a very, scary
tale
Very true, and as ever, very well put!! 🙂
Lovely.
Thank you!! 🙂 🙂
Such a charming poem though I agree the Pied Piper (and a lot of old fairy-tales) give off some sinister vibes. There is a Swedish children story where a boy goes to collect blueberries for his mother and is eaten by a bear, its almost like the moral is don’t be nice to others or you’ll be screwed haha Seriously I can’t figure out the moral in that!
Most fairy tales are sinister at heart I find..not sure why…perhaps they are all cautionary tales of one sort or the other. 🙂
Great poem. I was thinking along very similar lines today. Love your site. x
Thank you so much!!! 🙂 🙂
I have nominated you for the WordPress Family Award. I know, I know Awards right? This one is a good one. Go here for details: http://wp.me/p2Qoij-qg
Thank you so much – this is a good award, as yu say, one that is as special as the WP family itself. I may not have time to follow up as I have a lot of work – both day job work and also novel publishing project work – to do this weekend, but please know I very much appreciate you thinking of me!! 🙂
You have a great blog. I don’t always comment but like it very much
Thank you, and ditto to you! It can be hard to keep up with all the great blogs, but I know we all try our best! I sometimes worry people think I’m neglecting them or forgotten them, which isn’t the case…it’s just time and what we need to balance in it.
I appreciate your support and kindness! 🙂
Sound vibration
A shake of air
Spiritation
Of youth aware!
If this blog were a musical instrument, it would be a magic flute.
Sometimes.
Wow, thank you so much – both for the kindness and the beautiful creative way of expressing the comment!! 🙂
