Weariness

A weariness engulfs me
I am spent
And yet the drive to find these words
Will not relent
Release me yet

Within my bones
An ache arises
And like a serpent coiled within
Prepares to strike
With sudden ferocity
Bidding me give in, give in!

My eyes are heavy
Weights on eyelids
Struggling now to stay awake
And somehow here
Record this struggle
Before I sleep
Then greet daybreak

Oh muse so cruel
So unrelenting
Let me rest now, let me sleep
So on the morn
I wake refreshed
To serve these promises I keep

Its difficult, when “musings” like that keeps one awake, but its also so soothing to see the final result afterwards…

  3. This is awesome Helen… I can sure relate.

The lot of a writer, to be woken in the early hours by an idea you just have to get down before it fades. And the exhaustion in the morning. You put it so perfectly. ^_^

  5. Unfortunately one of the drawbacks of a writer’s lifestyle. Well written Helen. to which many writers on here would be able to understand.
