Free

Free from thought
Free from time
Free from consequence
Free from crime

Free from circumstance
Free from fear
Free from sympathy
Free from cheer

Free from thoughts now
Free from strife
May as well be
Free from life

Go The Distance

I desire
to go the distance
of the fire

Ambition
is my true mistress
I’ll not tire

I prefer
the higher mountain
here to climb

I’ll revere
the call of reason
not the rhyme

I desire
to go the distance
I demand

Aspiring
for no resistance
Perfect, planned

Best Kept Secret

Sshhhh!

Sshhhh! (Photo credit: rofi)

You have the best kept secret of all
They’d never know or guess
How far you’d stoop or fall

You hide your crimes in plain sight
The whiplash of comedy
Is a beacon far too harsh and bright

For years your truer self
Hid complete behind arched brow
All your secrets on your shelf

You have the best kept secret, I sense
You are the king of all perversity
The first, true master of pretence

Recovery

The day dawns less grey
Less oppressive seems the sun
And lights that lead the way
show simpler pathways here to run
Your name is not a beating
repetition in my heart
No image of your leaving
haunts each day now as it starts
I check but cannot feel now
your essence in my bones
I’m content and do not notice
the silent telephone
Recovery was gradual
as silently it grew
A miracle of time now
and one I never knew

Fair Play

The Games You Play

The Games You Play (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

You never knew fair play
It never was your way
For those who follow rules
Brought derision and dismay

You always played to win
No sense of dark or sin
All others were just fools
Who never could begin

To play your darker sport
Their actions came to nought
And so it is with me
As in your web I’m caught

You never knew fair play
No virtues to display
It’s how it had to be
You don’t care anyway

New Dynamic

There is a new dynamic here
Eyes cannot hold their gaze
There’s something different in you dear
A weaker connection now I fear
Your eyes distracted, glazed

A new dynamic takes its place
Within our complex games
A dark, distorted, angular place
And of love and mercy not a trace
We cannot be the same

This new dynamic grows from old
Evolution to our souls
It’s there in all the lies we’ve told
And I’m certain, should I be so bold
We neither care nor can control

Truth or Dare?

To speak the truth so long past now
I am not certain I can try
I know not where I may begin
To be so certain I don’t lie
And do I dare and would I choose
To risk it all to just deny?
It’s not as though I mean such harm
It’s only that I fear to try

So long ago we danced a dance
It seems a shimmering memory
And now I could believe it true
None of such drama came to me
It’s just reflection in a glass
A stranger world I once believed
A story from a master’s pen
To see it so I’d be relieved

And yet the truth demands its place
It’s too submerged to be the light
And so I’d dare the gods themselves
To finally say that I was right
And if I wasn’t, then accept
The crueller charge of fantasy
I’d dare it yet to be the fool
But time has hidden truth from me

Enemy Waters

Under the Sea

Under the Sea (Photo credit: Tora da Explora)

Swim carefully
The tendrils here are deadly
They curl and coil about you
To draw you further in

Swim cautiously
The many coloured fish are all
Siren songs to your decline
Beautiful assassins

Swim hopefully
Within the web of blue and white
The sun sprinkled up above
Reflections to the surface

Swim carefully
Enemy waters may yet beguile
And to the deeper darkness draw
Your childlike innocence
