Refrain

Many years ago
We were drenched in snow
In the forest deep
All our secrets keep
How we made our vow
How it haunts us now
Shall we meet again
Sing the past’s refrain?

There the words we spoke
Wore a snowfall’s cloak
Precious memory
Is the death of me
What we did within
Just a hidden sin
Shall we meet again
Sing the past’s refrain?

I am old and grey
Snowfall is my day
Even more at night
When the stars alight
But should I return
All our secrets burn?
Shall we meet again
Sing the past’s refrain?

Delicate

You are freshly born
So delicate
Beauteous imagery
And so dear to me
Like the breaking dawn

How my heart is torn
Can’t true placate
Your sweet symmetry
What the world will see
What they’ll dream upon

I am not forlorn
So intricate
Is your chemistry
I can yet believe
You are freshly born

Lone Sentinel

Lone Sentinel
In this arid place
Pondering our history

Lone sentinel
Take your rightful place
In heart of mystery

This tree of life
Grows in dusty climes
Roots seek nourishment

Not forest lush
No such sacred climes
Give encouragement

We stand alone
As the years stretch by
All our hopes contained

We stand alone
As the secrets fly
Till there’s none remained

Safe keeping

Give to me your scars and fears
Rest them soft within my hands
There is nothing you could do
That I cannot understand

Give to me your trials and pain
A child waiting to be born
Must be sheltered by such love
And to this I have here sworn

All your precious memories
All the wounds that you would heal
I will take the cuts within
Your fresh beauty to reveal

Your safe-keeping in my hands
In my sacred trust your soul
Let me be your hovering angel
As you heal until you’re whole

Moments – for Prompt 62 Mamihlapinatape

Too precipitate the moments
Wordless knowledge scattered here
Like children’s toys left out
In early summer’s rain
Speak not to me
Of half the truth
Of courage yet
Have greater proof
While only these lost memories remain

Too gentle is this passion
Withheld, trembling inside
Like promises too emboldened
To ever, ever keep
Speak not to me
Of dreams unborn
Of kisses chaste
And vows unsworn
Our little lives just rounded by our sleep

Too wise to make such methods
Or the mechanics of the heart
Be more than baubles strung
On last year’s yuletide tree
Speak not to me
As fingers touch
This says too little
And means too much
Our deepest secrets leaking by degrees

And deep below in hell fire freeze
As rain unbidden in springtime breeze
Our words unsaid are but a tease
Our precious secrets leaking by degrees

Rocks

I remember these rocks, do you?
The water washed away the blood
Across my mind such memories flood
I cannot still contain their force
And you just watch me
And laugh, of course
It never mattered
Never mattered much to you

I remember those days, do you?
The scenery so peaceful it’s obscene
Given our actions in between
My hands will never be wiped clean
They’ll never be wiped clean

I remember this shoreline, do you?
The last sight that a friendship saw
And all those promises we swore
To keep within our shadowed hearts
And you just shake your head
And laugh, your part
Was something you enjoyed
And never mattered much to you

I remember our crime, do you?
You washed with blood the purest green
Stood high above us like a queen
Our hands will never be wiped clean
They’ll never be wiped clean

Horizons

I am flying
Flying onwards to the new
I am calling
I am calling out to you
The horizons
Promise lovely scenery
Won’t you follow
Won’t you quickly follow me?

I’m cascading
Like pure water falling down
Fear is fading
I will find a newer ground
There re-building
A warm home and warmer hearth
Won’t you follow
Won’t you follow this sweet path?

I won’t linger
I am flying to my dream
You can follow
You can follow me downstream
You’re invited
You can play a special part
You’ll be sheltered
Sheltered safe within my heart

I am flying
Flying onwards to the new
I am calling
I am calling out to you

Skyfall

The planets are too close
Across horizons hang
As glowing, ripened fruit
They’ve sneaked up upon us
As we slept
Into our atmosphere
They’ve crept
Like children who were lost too long ago

The planets hover now
The vehicles of gods
Returning ancient kings
Does Arthur return to
This green land
As something we
Should understand?
Across my mind far darker portents blow

The planets re-align
A skyfall overhead
They say that Lucifer
Did fall
His dying star is
Here recalled
And its passage where the brave would never go

Eating the Bitter – for Prompt 62 Chi Ku

We are all children of a diseased god
Random atoms, we are scattered
like seeds in fallow but deceiving earth
We plough life with death
to birth life anew
The fruit so sweet upon our tongue
turns rancid in our bellies
by our own embittered bile
This force indiscriminate
passes within us every moment
unthinking, as a thread through a blinded needle’s eye
We wait to feast
on nothingness and formlessness
Alone in everything
and everything alone

Consume your pain, it is food
The engine of all life
Each drop of blood and every fallen tear
exist to refuel this unaware machine
knowing only that it must feed
Parlay your gratitude and warmth
against this deepest winter
You are consciousness unbound
and lost in boundlessness

Avert your eyes
Some sights should not be seen
They rob you of your hope and choice
to turn the darkest hues to brightest glow
Above a starless sky
might steal your sorrow and despair,
your tiny joys, as star-dust
to illuminate the firmament
with memories we grow too old
to yet recall

For mindlovemisery’s prompt at: http://mindlovemiserysmenagerie.wordpress.com/2014/06/29/prompt-62-chi-ku/

I have probably written too dark a poem for the theme, but in a sense the eating of bitterness that Chi Ku seems to me to imply might require a knowledge of what is bitter in the first place…or maybe that’s just me and my mood at the moment! 🙂

Remember to Forget

So many years have quickly passed
Each seven we begin anew
Our cellular forms will not outlast
The schism where our feelings grew
Your face is but dim memory
May well be changed now too, and yet
I find I must control my thoughts
So I remember to forget

And what we were was but a dream
Such bodies now no longer live
Another lifetime separates
And kills the need to just forgive
Our exertions to be free of this
Are bathed in honour’s toil and sweat
But still the illness sweetly lingers
We must remember to forget

The butterflies that we once were
Are pinned to history’s pallid walls
Cocoons now separate our hearts
To briefer, newer lives we’re called
This transformation has its price
But we will find its beauty yet
If you and I can here agree
To remember to forget
