Refrain

Many years ago
We were drenched in snow
In the forest deep
All our secrets keep
How we made our vow
How it haunts us now
Shall we meet again
Sing the past’s refrain?

There the words we spoke
Wore a snowfall’s cloak
Precious memory
Is the death of me
What we did within
Just a hidden sin
Shall we meet again
Sing the past’s refrain?

I am old and grey
Snowfall is my day
Even more at night
When the stars alight
But should I return
All our secrets burn?
Shall we meet again
Sing the past’s refrain?

Such a striking poem, and I’m curious, can I ask what inspired this?
