Held

Oh little ones I held you
In my hands
Gave life-force to your dreams
To all your plans
Within this darkened plain
This universe
I gifted you your freedom
As a curse

Oh little ones once sheltered
In my heart
Through lightning strong you rise
And then depart
I’m shivering within
An ancient soul
You cannot separate
And yet be whole

Oh little ones before
Your world was born
From this grey, fading mantle
You were torn
Electric as you rose
Across the sky
I wept for all the love
That you’d deny

Oh little ones
You live, you laugh, you die
I weep for all the love
That you deny

The Wildness and the Blade, for Prompt 78 Persephone

These childhood games we played
The wildness and the blade
We’d never shed one tear
Our blood ran thick as fear

This bride to death in black
Calls to retreating backs
Cross tempest wretched sky
Her ululating cry

Each bone is broken, lost
Demeter pays the cost
Through winter’s caul betrayed
Her skin but redness flayed

A dirge so beauteous sung
Each simple rite begun
These childhood games we played
The wildness and the blade

Scarlet

She stood alone
In scarlet
Defiant against
The palest moon

Her dress was satin
Pure scarlet
Broken promises made
Too soon

Her life force shining
As scarlet
On barren plains
Seeking life

She stood alone
In scarlet
And to no man was
The faithful wife

Touch

Reaching out
Whispering wind
The briefest moment
Of touch

Worlds are made
And broken pieces
Fall like starlight
Star-dust

Piercing morning
Astral force
Feel us tremble
For touch

Promises are made
Scattered children
Dance in the sunlight
And trust

Moon Before the Sun for Prompt 77 Quotes by Oscar Wilde

oscar-wilde

“We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars.” Oscar Wilde

I am drunk on you tonight
Our reverie has strewn
Faux crystals at our feet
They glitter and they sparkle
Up and down this rainswept street
Like breadcrumbs scattered
By a kindly god
Alluring and bittersweet

We wave our arms just knowing
In some moment we will alight
Up above the city’s crying
Up to clouds with silver lining
Where dark memories lie dying
Like songs we might remember
And we’ll wink
To one another while we’re flying

I’m so drunk on you tonight
Every dance was love on heels
In fashion so beautiful and young
We’re stars within our hemisphere
Like little children who have just begun
To understand the cosmos
And the aching beauty
That is the moon before the sun

World Outside

There is a whole world waiting outside
I don’t care
There are lush fields brimming with green
Growing there
Within my home everything’s dark
All is despair
There is a whole world living outside
I’m not there

Watch how the world creeps and it crawls
Over my stair
How do they think, how do they come
How do they dare?
How far do they fall, if they should fall
Into my lair?
There is a whole world stepping inside
Why should I care?

Angel

Fluttering wings
Against my cold cheek
Foolish things

Just a dream
What does heaven seek
Far downstream?

Angels sigh
But they never speak
Only cry

Be their host
Once before you die
Love the most

Falcon

I called you falcon
You returned
Like a guardian to my arm
Penetrating
Was your gaze
As you kept my world from harm
If for brief moments
You’d escape me
Wing away, that was your charm

I called you falcon
Beauteous bird
And of such a noble kind
It is true
Of all around me
You left everyone behind
But when you swooped
It was so sudden
And I knew that I was blind

I called you falcon
Called you to me
But kept you in a cage
You had the key
And could be free
But you lingered for an age
So when you fled
My broken heart
Was a poor player for the stage

Scandal

Years ago now it was said she played
a dangerous, exciting game
and of her many suitors only one
could take the blame, he lay bleeding
in the scandal’s wake and never was the same

It caused an internet sensation
for a moment trapped in time
Within depths of sheer embarrassment
the damage would combine, both were broken
half made people, no escape could ease the crime

Scandal deep within the bloodline
like it draws to DNA
Truth is fleeting, often beating all the
things that they might say, in the end it’s all
just darkness seeping soft into the day

Tunnel

Light and depth perception
Distort
Whirring air like a dragon breathing
Around us all the dark is seething
Train tracks cracking
All are bleeding
Tunnel sport

It’s just human interaction
Cascades
Knives are slashing in the depths
Make no sound, just hold your breath
Light is freedom
Whispered steps, the
Game is played
