Deliver Us

This I pray
Deliver us now
From such pain

This I plead
Your grace to bestow
At our need

At your feet
Prostrate we will fall
For such grace

This I pray
Deliver us now
To your heart

Dusk Till Dawn

I have loved you
Dusk till dawn
In night’s charade have I
Your pleasures born
I weaved the stars for you
To wish upon
And was your sanctuary
From dusk till dawn

I have blessed you
From dark to light
Each precious gift I give
And love requite
Within these depths a fire
I’ve set alight
And gave you guidance too
From dark to light

I’ll love you yet
Dusk till dawn
On this sweet fealty
I have so sworn
Each night I kiss your brow
My heart so torn
But I will love you yet
From dusk till dawn

Future Minds

These youths that deride
Our older remedies
Are the future minds
That one day yet will take
Upon themselves
The shackles of the age
And as they age they’ll know
They’re only future minds
For but the briefest time

Once those that settle now
To middle life’s repose
And were such firebrands
Now know to their chagrin
A dull and greater truth
The future minds of then
Are common minds of now
And fire’s lost with time
To let each day emerge

We were not gods of old
Nor godlings in our time
Our youth was ignorance
A sweet, brief malady
Naïve our future minds
But now we see ourselves
In these strappling youths
Who yet will learn the truth
In turn leave fire behind

The Devil in Love

Falling light
Caress the sky
It’s been so long
Recollections are gone
And what did you repay
For heaven’s silent song?

Waking age
A youthful bloom
Heartbeats remain
A cold and faithless friend
And what would you now give
To be in that thrall again?

Devil in love
Lucifer’s fall
Flaming spear so bright
Births day from deepest night
After eons can you still
Find paths to put this right?

Splinter

This cuts my eye
Deep within
A splinter of knowledge
Remembering
Digging deep the more
I try to draw it out
Belief’s a poor player
Cuckolded by doubt

Tiny rivulets
Tearing precious eyes
Lethal as a sword
But not by size
Once it cuts within
Cannot turn away
Yearning for the night
Only garish day

Splinter in my side
Splinter in my heart
Kills me by degrees
This is how it starts

Plundering the Romance Novel by Ionia Martin

Wonderful fun – a new book by Ionia Martin sure to bring a smile to your face! 🙂 🙂

Ionia Froment's avatarreadful things blog

Plundering cover

If you should feel so inclined to purchase

Description: A silly, satirical romp into the land of romance novels and pirate adventures, full of romance clichés and humour. This book is a short novella, just over 10k words.

Have you ever wondered what goes on in the minds and hearts of romance novel heroes and heroines? No? Good, because this book won’t be helpful with that at all.

If romance clichés drive you mad and you like Monty Python style humour, this may be the perfect book for you.

From the twisted mind of a sometimes writer and lifelong reader, you are certain to have less brain cells than you started with after reading this book.

Captain Stormy is the typical romance hero/villain archetype. He follows the Romance Hero Handbook to the letter, but he is about to figure out that nothing in his guidebook is going to prepare him…

Moonlighting

Clever silver queen
Flickering sublime
The morning’s beckoning you away
But you remain
Hovering above
You are another type of love
Another type of love

Moonlighting blooming sprite
Ancient but still young
A soft revolving dream
To dance with stars
Until the dawn
Depth and beauty born
Such beauty born

Miracles

You ask for miracles
My cupboard’s bare
There are no angels left
Just hiding there
And God has left us here
To our despair
To our despair

You plead for holy grace
To light your way
I’ve only platitudes
And dull dismay
Archangels winging far
So far away
So far away

What could be miracles
This modern age?
What the mechanics of
Wisdom so sage?
And is there any left
On history’s page
On history’s page?

You ask for miracles
When hope is gone
The sky’s too black for stars
To wish upon
And when we need the three
There’s only one
There’s only one

Deception

Building belief
On shifting sands
Eyes that flicker
Won’t meet your gaze
You know this in your bones
But still you want to dream
Deception’s game entices
Drawing you down

A willing sacrifice
Lamb to the slaughter led
You’re helping in this dark
And lost parade
Your simple need to feel
A truer part of life
Is the sweet melody
Drawing you down

Hopeless romantic sighs
They’ll write your eulogy
But never know the steps
You took on rocky ground
Just take my hand he sighs
Deceptions greatest force
Is just this need to merge
Drawing you down

Dead Zone

Here we bleed
Without fluidity
The cuts are deep
But leave no scars
All secrets kept
Beneath this canopy
All dying light
Like ancient stars

Here we touch
With no true intimacy
A kiss is papery
On drying lips
Here our names
Hold no legitimacy
And all ambition
Blindly trips

Here we weep
But there’s no comfort found
And friendship falls
Lost memories
And to this mast
Our feet and hands are bound
Our selfhood lost
By slow degrees
