Dangerous

Dangerous driving
Without headlights
Careening down
A darkened road
An accident
Yearning to happen
A wild heart
Set to explode

Somehow stealthy
Always lethal
Crouching evil
With intent
Hides in shadows
Clothed in darkness
Brutal heart
That won’t relent

Et In Arcadia Ego

Dread and terrible
Deep running stream
Unlit by sun
Source of sustenance
For dark knowledge’s thirst

At this entrance
See the words
To remind us still
Et in Arcadia ego

Paradise is a moment
In the flow of time
Even here we see
You swallowed your children whole
And fell like the stone
Tasted last

Sweet death stalks all
Back to our origins
This unrelenting eye
Surveys the tapestry
The Watchers weave

Bones and robes lie
Scattered in a cave
To remind us still
Et in Arcadia ego

It is but
The moment before
A resurrection takes hold
And swift Mercury arises
To the sky

Lost Angels

Angel in Aparecida, SP

Angel in Aparecida, SP (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

Suspect feelings rise
A glimpse of something so old
It decays from within

A mask worn
Through the mirror dark
Reflects back a truth
Soothsayers would scream for

Lash across the back
Splinters of words
And dreams
Corrode the flesh
From a face
Best forgotten

A morning of remembrance
Drunk from revelry
The night before
Dancing with your darkness
Supping with the beast

Once innocence is lost
Wisdom might replace
The delicacy
And patch up the cracks
In between

But nothing brings back the angels
Once they have
Flown away

Just Being Logical About This….

Shyness

Shyness (Photo credit: roeyahram)

I admit that it’s true
That with nearness of you
My cheeks seem to show
A far pinker hue

And it seems we see here
My more brittle veneer
Comes with moments when you
Have ventured more near

But let’s not presume
That balance resumes
Just at the moment
You exit the room

Let’s not cause a sensation
Remember our education
And that mere correlation
Cannot prove there’s causation.

Eternity

Patience is
a virtue they say
so I wait

Hours pass
like a year or more
in a day

If you’d smile
turn your gaze to me
you would see

Moments now
without your gaze are
eternity

Power Games

Richard I of England

Richard I of England (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

Eyes across a banquet hall
Pageantry and dance
As the princelings of this line
Other lines supplant

Claims and politics abound
Priests and scholars play
Interpretive, this history
All the court dismayed

Heads may roll upon a line
A chapter or a verse
To the Tower those that fall
Or a fate that’s worse

Tudor or Plantagenet
Plays the old refrain
Down the centuries we find
All the games remain

Once it was the will of God
And seed of marriage bed
Now it is the stock exchange
Or what the media said.

Dragon Loyalty Award

dragonsloyaltyaward

http://jrosenberry1.wordpress.com nominated me for the Dragon’s Loyalty Award!! Given my fairly obvious love of dragons this was especially touching, and also coming from such a great writer and fellow blogger. I highly recommended that you visit her blog – her poetry is amazing and her friendship of great, great value.

{The rules are:}
-Display the Award Certificate on your website.
-Announce your win with a written post and link to whoever presented your award.
-Present 15 awards to deserving bloggers. ( Like my gracious nominator I am going to choose fewer because it’s less stressful for everybody. Also, there are so many I could choose I’m going to try to limit it to ones I think might, like me, especially like a dragon related award and ones I did not nominate, or perhaps did not even know, at the time I did my earlier award nomination process)
-Drop them a comment to tip them off after you have liked them in the post.
-Post 7 interesting things about yourself.

Seven Interesting Things about Me

1. I am not very IT literate so I’m not sure how to do hyperlinked text so my nominations etc below are the web address rather than name of the people concerned – please bear with me on that luddite side of me!
2. When I was 16 I spent four years learning to sing opera, which is fine except I don’t really like most opera music. The sort of music I did like my teacher thought was too ‘pop music-y’
3. When I was a child I wanted to be a tiger. I also wanted to rule the world. I’m not sure if these things were mutually exclusive in my mind
4. I no longer want to rule the world, nor be a tiger for that matter. What I crave now is a comfortable, quiet life, which is probably a sign of age
5. I love watching tv box set DVDs..I think that is my favourite form of relaxation
6. For someone who writes poetry, prose and novels, I spend most of my time reading non fiction books
7. When my brother and I were young we used to wait outside at night in the hope of seeing a UFO or getting abducted but neither ever happened, LOL

So, to my nominees – and why I chose them (and I highly recommend you check out all these blogs if you aren’t reading them already!):

http://whenibecameanauthor.wordpress.com: A very special blogger who is so generous of heart, and who I know sees a dragon award as a real treat.
http://solothefirst.wordpress.com: A great friend in real life, fantastic writer and fellow blogger in virtual life, and also because she is writing a story with a dragon in it now – go check it out, that story and all her other work is fabulous!!

http://dropsofink.com : One of the first bloggers I met on wordpress and still one of the loveliest and most talented and diverse…I am sure a dragon would be honoured to be associated with this blog!!.
http://thesoultamagotchi.wordpress.com : A blogger I’ve met relatively recently in WP-land, and a wonderful, warm fellow WP traveller and fantastic writer.
http://roxistclair.com : A spiritual light in a dark world, a writer of enormous talent and generosity, and a wonderful friend…dragons should bow down before her.
So I’ve kept the nominations to a relatively small group with specific criteria and I do want to stress that this does not mean, for any of the other numerous and wonderful bloggers that I follow, that you are enjoyed and followed with any less gusto.  As I said last time, if I follow your blog you inspire and entertain me, and to everyone involved I am most grateful.

When I Am Gone

When I am gone
I will haunt you
Whisper across your windowsill
Glide across your floor

I will be the slight chill
Which bids you draw your coat
Around your shoulders
And a breath
Against your cheek
Before you sleep

I will be the song line
Running through your mind
With the lyric
Not recalled
Just achingly out of reach

When I am gone
I will haunt you
I will have little else to do
And in death, as in life
All begins and ends with you.

Penance

Sweat on the brow
A visual sign
Of inner resolve

Too many times
Weakened and crippled
At the last hurdle

Greed, rapaciousness
Dissolving within
Sweat and shame

Sacrificial offering
Burn out the soul
Eternal pyre

For one brief moment
As sinews stretch
You raise your eyes

And know forgiveness
Not of the other
But of yourself

Matrix Musing

I’d like a hacker
To break through
The circuitry
Of your mind
The connections
And coding
Of your heart

I’d like the hacker
To tell me
What is really
Within
Is there anything
Except 0001100111
In endless
And meaningless
streams?

If we’re all in
The matrix
I think your pattern
Is on repeat
I don’t need an Oracle
To tell me
The batteries
I keep feeding you
Ran dry
Long ago
As did I……
