My Love

My love is a strange love
Not of this world
Said a strange young girl

My love is a deep well
Bottomless fall
Taking my all

My love is a lost hope
Reaching for souls
Cannot be whole

My love is a night flight
Borne upon wings
Broken heart sings

My love is a strange love
Not of this world
Said a strange young girl

Night Sweat

English: Nighttime Panorama

English: Nighttime Panorama (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

Unseasonably warm
The evening prickles
With dull heat
Faint sweat upon skin
Recalls longer nights
Tossed and turned sheets
Seeking the cool of solitude
Not the warmth of skin to skin

It is so very still
Within the web of night
Even cicada song is silenced
As though the sky
Holds its breath
Awaiting the moment
Till the stars fall and die

In preternatural quiet
Sleep may come
With shadowed dreams
Weaving a tapestry
Of balmy delight
Or heated fear
Dripping moment by moment
Till dawn

Another book to add to your collection…..

Just spreading the word on Roxi’s new anthology of poetry, available now!!! Roxi’s poetry is like a dream, like a beacon to an earlier and more poetic age…one of my favourite poets ever! So thrilled about the release of this work!!! 🙂 🙂

Darkest Star

Dark Star

Dark Star (Photo credit: cloud2013)

I smell death on you
I smell disease
I sense blood soaked nights
To keep you pleased

I smell deep decay
Of the nocturnal kind
The sad debris
Of victims left behind

I sense the Reaper’s smile
Upon your jackal face
And all that withers here
Your cold love replaced

I smell death on you
It’s in your staring eyes
The moment you appear
To lost and dull surprise

I smell the end of hope
All of the kindness gone
You chose the darkest star
To wish upon

Beautiful Creatures

Jazz Age Lawn Party – WWD: Photo by Kyle Ericksen (Photo credit: Arsenic and Old Lace)

Beautiful creatures
Dance until dawn
Lights in pergolas
Night shadowed lawn
One sole wallflower
Pale and forlorn
One single waltz
Would see her reborn

Beautiful creatures
Canapes and wine
Jasmine soaked air
Ivy entwined
See all the gods here
Fallen divine
Elegant hostess
Slim and refined

Beautiful creatures
Hide all their sin
Blood runs so cold now
Under their skin
Nameless the horrors
Hidden within
On such a night
Where to begin?

The thrill gives you fuel for the chase
The glory of reaching your goal
Adrenalin rising you up
Energy flows through your soul

Tasting victory now on the wind
Running as though you could fly
Seeking the glittering prize
Just not enough that you try

Competition flows in your veins
Know you’ll be best of the best
Climbing unconquerable mountains
Rising each time to the test

Pitting your fibre and form
Against all achievements you’ve made
Secure in the effort this took
Smiling throughout the parade

As I observe your domain
I see how your victory is gained
I bow to your focus and drive
With all of your honor retained

Hero Worship

Everyone wants a piece of you
Everyone wants to be there
Everyone needs your friendship
To believe that you see them and care

Everyone aspires to be like you
Everyone gazes in awe
Every word that you utter
Everything they’re looking for

Everyone follows your footsteps
Everyone falls into line
Everyone calls for this essence
Something so you it’s divine

Everyone looks for the moment
When with your word they are free
Yet everyone yearns to be captured
Everyone, my dear, except me.

Dazed and Confused

English: Jimmy Page #2 in Madison Square Garde...

English: Jimmy Page #2 in Madison Square Garden with Led Zeppelin (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

There were moments of pure clarity
When the light shone so bright
I could almost see reality

There were harbingers that night
Of a darker type of fealty
When the strangeness seemed so right

And what it was seemed real to me
Though dazed confusion played
Across my inner chemistry

In twilight I might have stayed
Had this strong beat not drawn me
This new world where I had strayed

Guitar sighs as though to warn me
And this might have been a charity
Had its darkness not have drawn me

There were moments of pure clarity
When the light shone so bright
I could almost see reality…..

For the prompt at:

http://mindlovemisery.wordpress.com

– ‘Music – to write something inspired by a song from the decade of one’s birth (the 1960s for me – told you all I was old!!) – how could I not choose a song by Led Zeppelin??

Profile

profile it

profile it (Photo credit: wader)

A profile of you
Pensive, by the door
Reflecting times past
When we twirled upon
A rose-bled dance floor

Slope of nose
Slightly raised chin
In this silhouette
All memoirs of love
Will end as they begin

Your voice is a song
I sing when no-one is there
Reminds me of your face
As you stopped a moment
To glance back, on the stair

As you left, a profile of you
Departing, when all is gone
Is the last that I
Will recall of this
Heartbreak’s final song.
