What message do you give me
In this twilight world
This forest deep wherein you roam
And regenerate
Shed your skin and breathe anew
And slithering, quietly come in view
And resting on my lap here awhile
What do you whisper to my ear
And should I fear?

Your bite is sharp but painless still
This little fear will leave me soon
I’d run from you
In dull surprise
And feel a failure in your eyes
You went to death
Returned again
In your sweet venom then a boon
Your bite is sharp but painless still
This little fear will leave me soon

You coiled around my arms
A welcome friend, but I’m afraid
In moments wondering if you came
With a message ofΒ dark
Disappointment’s pain?
Ah, such is love, a burning flame!
Where none but the most pure
May remain

Your sting is deep, to death’s dark shroud
I yet return to rise more proud
In transformation
Is the key
The fault-lines running deep in me
We are alone
And we commune
Within a forest not a crowd
Your sting is deep, to death’s dark shroud
I yet return to rise more proud

An interesting take, a frightening image! So compelling are serpents, intrinsically and symbolically!
