Corrosion

For years you slowly ate
The heart of me
The purest of my fruit
Fell to your cold decay
A thief within the night
You showed such cruelty
But coward, you would hide
At quiet break of day

For years you took your fill
One bite at a time
You soured the sweetest fruit
And spoiled the purest day
I know you are still proud
A master of your crime
A creature most at home
When causing disarray

For years you would corrode
The faith within my soul
I waited for some grace
You never would return
I guess I just denied
My sheer lack of control
But even innocence
Must finally fall and learn
