Hope Dies for Prompt 39 Unwanted Truth

My truth is the one where hope dies
It shivers on the barricades
It is verdant in the Everglades
But when the jury must be swayed
Just silence and a nothingness replies

My truth is the one deep known
The greed that every man denies
An ignorance of baby’s cries
A space where not one hero tries
To halt scars cut so deeply to the bone

My truth is in the arms of death
A passage where a light is shown
Is just a garden overgrown
And where we dwell, we dwell alone
Our promises just withered on our breath

  1. “And where we dwell, we dwell alone” this just breaks your heart and it is something I am realizing right now. Written with such elegance and such pathos love it

  2. Wow Helen all a bit bleak, but then again an unwanted reality is just that, otherwise it wouldn’t be unwanted…..Well done and powerfully expressed.

  3. The Real Cie says:

Absolutely amazing. I have lived a rather lonely life where hope and dreams have died one by one, no joke. I get tired of trying to pretend it has been otherwise.

  4. philipparees says:

Hope is the cruelest companion, the most constant betrayer, the sadist who renews promises just when you are ready to surrender. Bleak indeed, but true.

  5. sknicholls says:

Very moving. I can feel the pain in the voice. When pain is inflicted upon the heart the wound does heal but not the scars. So much of it must be ignored to tarry on with promises we will never be able to fulfill.

  6. This is so sad and yet so real. I too have a hard time with hope…Sometimes I feel it’s is someone elses’ illusion. Beautifully written with so much passion.

  7. Skye says:

Truly amazing, Sis! I can feel the passion within it. xxxx 🙂
