Humpty Dumpty

English: “And he grinned almost from ear to ear”. Illustration by Peter Newell to “Through the Looking-Glass and What Alice Found There”, chapter “Humpty Dumpty” (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

We are teetering on the edge
Barely clinging to the ledge
Emails and texts just pass us by
I’ve no tears left inside to cry
This world is in ruins
There is no mistaking
It’s far, far too late to stop
Humpty Dumpty from breaking

I cling here on the sidelines
My excuses rehearsed and refined
I gave such latitude to you
I thought it the least I could do
The shell now is so broken
No emotion is reaching my eyes
It’s far, far too late now
For Humpty Dumpty to cry

You spoke of your warrior heart
Should have seen this right from the start
Your vision of yourself too grand
For anything to go as planned
I’d like to say there’s hope
A moment for a why or a when
But it’s far, far too late to put
Humpty Dumpty back to together again
