Feeding Time For Fools – for Prompt 24 – Vixen

Vixen (Inari)

They have named me vixen
These shrewd, careful boys
In a word they have captured
All elements, all meanings
As though in describing thus
I am therefore contained
It’s just feeding time for fools
And only fools here remain

They de-clawed my fingertips
Dressed me in the finest clothes
Felt capable of taming me
All politeness, perfect courtesy
But my teeth grow ever sharper
Gnawing on human remains
It’s just feeding time for fools
And these fools are aptly named

They have branded me as vixen
Half seductress and half shrew
What they most fear deep about me
Is what draws them to my side
And I might be gentle with them
I can show pity, yet be kind
It’s just feeding time for fools
And only fools are left behind

  1. Oh Helen this poem is just dripping with venom! I love it =)

  2. Helen great response, very much the vixen is described. The sort I would steer well clear of. Excellent poem. You have set a high standard.

  3. This is great – very much makes me think of ‘Taming of the Shrew’, and I love the repetition at the end of the stanzas.

  4. Why no ‘love’ button? Love.x

  5. Anja says:

    Oh my….a vixeny vixen….love it!!

  6. Love the lurking viciousness of the poem’s voice.

  7. Skye says:

Wow!! Sis, your talent never ceases to amaze. Truly incredible! Going back to read it again! 🙂
