Pilate, Washing His Hands

Pilate, Washing His Hands (Photo credit: elycefeliz)

This fervour
Honestly felt
To secure
The common wealth
To minister to
The country’s health
Enters the school
Of ways and means
To be mentored
By silent stealth

This Creator
This god: Choice
And the patterns
Of unique voice
On this promise
Duly hoist
Each day with
Incremental goals
Find reasons
To rejoice

One by one
Comes compromise
Political ploys
In loyalty’s guise
Seeking Pilate’s
Dull surprise
Leading you down
Corruption’s petty road
Before you
Can recognise

All dreams
But broken vows
Not the you
Of then; but now
Beyond what principle
Would allow
You rise each day
A demon’s falcon
And you know you
Now must bow

Corruption of best
Is the worst
Putrification can’t
Be reversed
Rationalisations are
Rehearsed
But in these hallowed
Halls of infamy
You become the thing
You’ve cursed

About helenvalentina

Like most people, I have a number of sides to me. The most interesting one probably emerges through my writing, hence this blog. I love to read, and also to write, and so this is a way to share both.

    Excellent read.

  2. corruption of the best is the worst – how true

  3. No Longer I says:

    Pilate’s Pain

    What have I done!
    O mi culpa
    Have I killed
    The author of life
    What have I done
    Capax infiniti

    My life at best
    Now turned to worst
    Future
    No longer exists for me
    For I feared the crowd
    The voices loud
    Compos mentis?
    No
    Not I
All is lost, all is lost

    The crowd jeered death
    Silent his followers
    Recte et fideliter
    They said of him
    My wife cannot rest
    She knows truth
    Veritas of death
    For me

    Heaven
    Help me if he be
    A god
    Of vengeance
    And not of peace
    For at my best
    I have done my worst
