I was not what you expected
Not what the wrapping would imply
I was more unguarded moments
Than a player ought to try
To a lover, sweet perplexity
Escaping on a sigh
I was not what you expected
I was only passing by
All your poems and pretty speeches
All your songs to make me cry
All your ways of sly seduction
On such things did you rely
How you sought to draw me to you
So in your warm embrace I’d lie
Came to nothing, you mis-understood
I was only passing by

I’ve got so much wrapping that to find out the real me underneath would require a very long game of pass the parcel.
LOL, that would make for an interesting party game!!! 🙂 🙂
I met someone like that….poems, pretty speeches, songs to make you cry…thank goodness HE was only passing by. 🙂 Great work, Helen!!
Thanks so much Skye!! 🙂 🙂 xxx
Hmm, I may need to show this poem to someone… When looking for none, or only one, then many are passed by. 🙂 Well said!
Thank you so much!! 🙂 🙂
🙂
Helen, I love your poems. ‘Passing By” is sad but has a ring of truth.
Thank you so much Malcolm! I love your writing too! 🙂 🙂

Very wise!! Exactly!! 🙂 🙂
Great poem, Helen – I loved the turning of the tables aspect, but said with (I felt) kindness.
Thank you, yes, it was meant to be regretful and kind, not cruel. 🙂
I emailed you again:( So sorry for the confusion yesterday, I hope to see your poem for the Thursday prompt up soon. My fault!
No problem, I probably didn’t post it right or, as I said in my email back to you, the writing gods were telling me something, LOL!!! 🙂
