Paradox

Kept Heart

Kept Heart (Photo credit: haunted by Leonard Cohen)

The human heart
Is a paradox
Savage selfishness
In a gold-edged box

It wants what it wants
And believes what should be
Is its singular desire
To merge to a ‘we’

Each love dream unique
To each solitary heart
Chosen method of merging
A thing quite apart

Our love story is ours
No other author can be
But must live through another
Paradoxically
