The human heart
Is a paradox
Savage selfishness
In a gold-edged box
It wants what it wants
And believes what should be
Is its singular desire
To merge to a ‘we’
Each love dream unique
To each solitary heart
Chosen method of merging
A thing quite apart
Our love story is ours
No other author can be
But must live through another
Paradoxically

My heart isn’t. Mine’s all purple and wobbly and surrounded by years of accumulated chip fat.
