A well run dry
No rain for days
Township thirst
Alcohol fuelled
Blistering sun
Robs all moisture
And life and love
From the ground
Seeking in dark caverns
Beginnings of light
Forgotten rivers
Deep within walls
Townsfolk mingle
Telling tales of old
While the most ancient
Among them
Dowse for water from brown earth
Your thirst has lasted days
No fluid can sate it
You hunger not for water
But the source
This town knows
Deep within its bones
That water you seek has gone
And will never
Return

loved the story in this … but I also came away with a feeling that this is about more than just water 🙂
And you’d be right!! 🙂 Thanks for the comment, support and perception!! 🙂
Loved this, Helen…….**runs and gets a glass of water or two** Hugs!!
Thank you so much!! 🙂 Hugs.
I love the deeper meaning that you’ve gracefully hidden in your words! I got glimpse of the deeper and it left me thirsty for more 🙂
Thank you so much, yes it was meant to be allegorical. 🙂
sad 😦
Thank you, I guess the allegory is sad… the soul’s thirst, unquenched…
A the end it really hits you hard, excellent work, very profound, great metaphor =)
Thanks so much!! 🙂 🙂
What amazes me continually about your work, is that no matter how many times I read the same piece over again, I get something different out of it every time. In other words I spend way too much time stalking your blog lol
LOL, it’s not stalking if you are welcome!! 😉 Thank you so much, that is so kind of you. 🙂
