If you would walk
Step by step with me
For but one day
All our differences
Brooding wrongs
Might ease away
If you would walk
Down a pathway here
For just a mile
We may unite
Relinquish all our cause
To revile
If you would talk
For a moment here
By my side
In our words
Find new harmony
Balance pride
But if you turn
Keep your back to me
As before
Nothing’s left
Nought of worth to gain
Just the score

This was great 🙂 my phone won’t let me copy the words into this comment, but the wording in the 2nd stanza (is that what it’s called) was perfection!!!
Thank you so much!! 🙂 🙂
This is so perfect.
And uncannily apropos for me. I wish I could recite this to someone who was almost a good friend.
I was reminded just now of a quote from a Pink Floyd song: “All we need to do, is keep talking.”
Thanks, yes that’s a very fitting quote to associate with the bittersweet hopeful side to the poem! 🙂
I truly love this!
Thank you so much!! 🙂 🙂
I found the last part dark but truthful. It needed to be said though since I found my interpretation as being that of repentance and redemption. Keep inspiring with your writing, Helen!
Thank you so much..it probably was one part redemptive, one part dark!! The situation that inspired it certainly was!! 🙂
