With me
It’s always water damage
Every place I’ve lived it seems
Will have plumbing problems
Eventually

So I should have known
That foolish moment
Of romantic conceit
When I declared to myself
You were a storm in my life
You would be

But not as a magnificent
Lightening strewn
Tableau
Of clouds and horizons
With portentous intent

Instead as the aftermath
The water that lingered
Stealthily sinking in
Invading every crevice
Every crack leading to
The foundations of my life
Quiet but inexorable
Devastating over time
Till all that was left
Was the water damage

  1. On the surface, water damage is superficial, but if left unchecked, it can penetrate the very core of our existence. Your words have dripped through to my soul and whetted my creative appetite. Thank you for sharing this poem today!

    • Thank you so much, that’s the very heart of what I was trying to say…so pleased it came across as I hoped. Really appreciate you taking the time to give me that feedback! πŸ™‚

  2. “The water that lingered

This is a fine metaphor. Water damage does indeed run deep and so does the pain from some relationships.

    Bravo!

    • Thank you, so much appreciated. It’s also literally true for me that places I live seem to have plumbing problems…perhaps that’s not uncommon but it feels like its something about me! πŸ™‚

Wow you created a poetry out of a misery. And something as water damage. *bows*
