Create the pearl
Agony of labour
New life
Deeper pain and distress
Forge a writer’s words
Or an artist’s brush
A singer’s song
Whirling in this mire
Off centre
Intimately alone
Can a monstrosity
Create a star
Like Hephaestus
At his anvil
Building from forsaken
Brooding love?
Phoenix rising
From ashes of its making
Can you heal
From your deep illness
Arise through your muse
To a more pure morning?
Could the tragedy
And horror
Of such ruthless action
And pressure on
Another’s life
Yet produce
This masterpiece
That you crave?
