Symbiotic twins it seems
Too alike
Too similar backgrounds
Too common talents
Every twin must find
Their own identity
So it is
For you and me

Perhaps within alliances
Of this kind
Breeds the contempt
Of familiarity
Some unconscious
Separation
In the places
Where souls bleed

I care not
For competition
It’s too abstract
Too ill-defined
It is a race
That enslaves
Those who would be free
And so it is
For you and me

Not only extremely succinct and well-written but insightful and challenging as well, a message that should be mentioned, ok, perhaps pounded into our stubborn selves until we finally get it — we are each ONLY ourselves, no matter how “close” we might think we are to someone else. Only in the realization of this simple truth can we ever learn to accept and be truly ourselves! Most excellent poem!

  6. I enjoy the refrain “and so it is/for you and me”. It adds a sense of acceptance but also a sense of powerful independence. Well done.

  7. Yes, a lovely lilting ending. Beautiful stuff again!
