Sacrifice

Centuries deep
This sacrifice sleeps
Beneath our hearts
Words whispered
Heads bowed
Unaware
We cannot know
The pain that was felt
The blood that flowed

Stories still told
Centuries old
Where faith starts
When we weep
On our knees
By degrees
We come to know
The pain that was felt
The blood that flowed

LOvely Helen! What a commemoration on my birthday- the burning of ND and the resurrection of Victor Hugo! I am not taking it personally but nevertheless… Something poignant about the saving of the bells!

Powerful writing, Helen. The crucifixion account always brings me to tears. “The blood that flowed…” ♥
