Wash Us Clean

This glorious moment
Wash us clean
Pure rainfall is your gift
Undeserved but craved
Even in our closed and doubting minds

In youth the man
Cared not for matters of the soul
The world beckoned
As a thing of substance and life
Nothing shadowed came calling
Individual he stood
Knowing himself little
And little caring

This perfect moment
Wash us clean
Let the water expunge
Every selfish thought
Even in our closed and doubting hearts

In age he learned
Something slept within awaiting the day
It could awake and open
His blinded, tired eyes
And then the city glories seemed
But dull to a palate
Yearning to be refined
To be whole

This blessed moment
Wash us clean
Let the torrent
Of the waking soul arise
Even in our closed and doubting soul
