Press ‘Start’

Start button

Start button (Photo credit: mag3737)

I was reluctant to begin
To press start entailed
Commitment and belief
It required
An act of faith
My doubting heart eschewed
It needed
Bravery I fear I lacked

I was hesitant to call
To press the buttons necessary
A singular confidence
To wait to hear your voice
Mere moments of sheer hell
And perhaps the courage
To fail, lingered distant
On my horizon

I was avoiding a beginning
Press start would mean
A possible ending loomed too soon
I wandered lost within
A pure, death white room
And waited and I waited
For hopefulness to bloom

Great poem! that start button is a terrifying thing!

  5. Beautiful prose. The trepidation before hitting the start button is the worse for me. Hitting it has been “life affirming.” Good luck with with all of your starts!
