They say there is such a short distance
within the cerebral cortex to the amygdala
Tenuous bridge of thought that shimmers
with indeterminate, uncontrolled
reptilian response
These furrowed roads within
are fortune’s fool
and character as destiny trembles
on this molten precipice
behind the tears you show
in bright blue eyes
the impulses of anger, need
and overwhelming, demanding greed
and cruelty’s deep and fragrant seed
are very close, so close indeed….
Come cross this bridge with me….
Spin through temporal lobe epilepsy
The winding gyre unravelled and free….
Your lips are a whiplash memory
An insolent type of imagery
To show the travel propelling
across such ledges deep within
the way behind breaking like a ghost
in alien, ancient skin
The way is crossed
and in this world outside
another life is lost
you pay your ferryman
in pain and sin
And wait for further impulses
across this narrow bridge
to yet again begin
to yet again begin…….

A bit of a macabre bridge I chose, but I’ve just been watching a courtroom drama series about a serial killer…. 🙂
Well done Helen great take on the prompt. I like the reference to the ferryman, so in keeping with the life of the serial killer, like he makes a permanent booking.
Yes, a very permanent booking. Thanks Michael!! 🙂
This is incredible, Helen!!! Wow! I love the intensity of it throughout. ((is it just me or does the brain look like a scary teddy bear wearing sunglasses?) xxxx 🙂
I can see what you mean!! Ah, the brain can be a scary place I suppose!! 🙂 🙂
Yes, yes it can…{{{{hops off}}}}
Oh this is brilliant I had a feeling you’d use the brain somehow, I agree with Skye there is amazing intensity to this piece
Then you’re psychic! It was the first thing that occurred to me! Thanks!! 🙂
There is something very strange going on with my prompts they seem to promote psychic ability haha
