Mirror (2)

I gazed into the mirror bright
It gave me comfort, gave me fright
And candlelight so soft and low
Companion to the darkened night

My face took on an eerie glow
This person here I didn’t know
This person’s face was one I’d fear
With wicked secrets whispered low

It seemed this mirror showed too clear
Another world so close, so near
Another place beyond the glass
Where all I am might disappear

And how would this not come to pass
Dissolving in the looking-glass?
A wrong can never be made right
If I am gone I’m lost, alas!

I gazed into the mirror bright
My right was left, my left was right
And from the glimmer rose a sprite
That vanquished my poor soul this night

  1. Another deep poem Helen, i love to think about the possibilities you raise in each poem. And there is a stylistic feature which I like as well. The ending lines remind me of the romantics, that view od accepting what nature might have in store for us. Have a great day Helen.

  2. Those are very lovely words and images. Thank you.

  3. This morning, my eerie glow showed too many grays popping up! 🙂 Loved this, Sis! 🙂

The beautiful, eerie “point of no return”. Love it 🙂
