Over-Heated

FIRE!

FIRE! (Photo credit: Gregory Jordan)

You are overheated
Your grasp is too reaching and your grip too weak
You are fevered like a summer day
With only sweat to cool you down
No breeze will break the tempest
Written on your brow

Your heart is overblown
It’s open, an undefended casket
Where you lay our own bones down
But every thief in the night has access
And you cannot keep them out

You need creation
To write or paint it out of you
Secure in the immolation, the brevity
Of release of fire, the artist yearns to speak
To speak through you

You are over-taxed
You rely on youthful vitality
You’ve lost through all these years
Of restless wandering, please settle
Before you drown now in your tears.

I have read only a few of your poems Helen but I get two things coming out, one a great love and secondly a passion for the writing which you express so wonderfully well, like a desperate pleading for change and recovery.
